Benitez will put out a second string "we're safe, we needed to check out a few youngsters who have been performing well for the reserves" etc.

He's leaving in a couple of weeks, he's done his job of keeping them up, he won't be trying to win that.
I can't see it, he's to professional, his rep means more to him then some club he once managed. IMO Newcastle will lose because there poor, but I can't see Rafael doing Liverpool a favour

i meant because he has a massive affiliation with the RS.

I know it's Spurs and not Liverpool that time but his attitude to the game and the final home game of the season 'lap of honour' etc should be constants - on tv too so his reputation may suffer slightly at a time he may be looking elsewhere if he throws it.

You also have to factor in the CL effect, the rs will have played in Spain on the Wednesday and can't have been preparing for this match until they got home.

The result would have an effect but that was such a huge match and the preparation so short for this league game, and looking an increasingly likely futile effort in the league - totally out of their hands, that the return match with Barca, dependant on the first result could still be in their own minds, whatever Klopp says for the cameras, the return with Barca could be the more important game by a long way.

Big match congestion at this stage of the season is huge, City have it all in their favour, the rs could easily fall between two stools in chasing both.

Liverpool drawing Porto out of the proverbial 'hat' in the last round consigned them to this final congested fixture list and Klopp going out of the domestic cups early is no longer a factor now with City having all the time in the world to prepare.

If Ayoze Perez, their main goalscorer in their recent good run, is out they've no chance, but have some chance of getting something if Perez and Rondon are up front and Liverpool are jaded following their huge match in Barcelona

Even Aaron Mooy was our when Huddersfield played Liverpool (not that it would have made any difference) but there seems to have been an unwritten rule this season that a team has to be missing their best player when they play Liverpool.
