He achieves nothing by protecting the player publicly like he's doing. Sarri is weak here. Clearly the tactical thing to do was swap in Caballero, who is amazing at penalty shootouts and who knows the Man city players as he is a former player there.

He made the correct call, and should have thrown the petulant **** under the bus.

Not a fan of throwing players under the bus but there is also a lot of room between yelling about them to the press and excusing their behaviour with a “it was all a misunderstanding”.

A simple “we will be discussing the incident” and no further comment would have been the way I’d have suggested - leaves room to tear a strip off the pillock in private but not wash the clubs dirty laundry in public.

Sarri isn’t in the same club position as Fergie and I doubt that management style would be as effective these days anyway. It certainly didn’t seem to work for Mourinho.

Titles are the yard stick of success - not league cups (though I wish we'd finally get round to winning one anytime soon)

Player power at Chelsea has to be down to the owner judging by the amount of mangers that club has gone through
