Without doubt you cannot base the standard of the Premier League on the cowardly tactics of Mourinho. Stick any other top six coach in charge of the same group of Man Utd players they win comfortably. The other four English teams would have smashed Seville. Spurs were the better team against Juve for 2 hours 30 minutes of the three hours played. They threw away a tie in which they were comfortably the better side. Three English teams should be in the last 8. Chelsea played very well against Barca and in no way does 4-1 reflect play. The first game Barca would never have scored but for the Chelsea defender’s stray pass along the backline which Iniesta picked up and put in Messi..besides that gift they created nothing. Chelsea hit the post four times in the two legs. It’s not a vintage Barca team, the midfield isn’t functioning.Which is a reflection of the cowardly tactics Mourinho pulled. That Man Utd squad have more than enough quality to dispatch the current Sevilla side with little bother yet they set up last night like they were against Barcelona. It's probably one of the strangest games I've seen for some time and that includes us away to Southampton mate.
Sevilla putting them out doesn't automatically mean Sevilla would be in second place in the Prem just like Spurs smashing Real Madrid doesn't make them better than the back to back winners. Atletico Madrid got smoked out of a group containing the 5th placed Chelsea and 3rd placed Roma and yet sit comfortably second in the league.
Hopefully I've made the point - The quality of domestic football shouldn't be judged and decided by a game of knockout football. It's a hell of a lot more complicated than that. Just like other sports, styles mean everything.
