I have to ask whether Liverpool want to be in this. It looks for all the world like a millstone tied around their neck with the chase for the CL spots about to hot up.

Agreed. Liverpool stand a chance, playing at their very best, of winning the tournament. But the odds are against them as there are some teams left in this who, if they play their best, will take them apart.

I hope Liverpool are knocked out tonight, because it's better they wren't in it for us (although I wouldn't run scared of facing them in a game outside a SF) and it closes down quickly another avenue toward a trophy for them. But it'd completely destroy their run in if they do win tonight and win again in the round of 16.

Not sure I like the cynicism displayed by big baz in the press conference t'uther day- that winning Europa is means to an end i.e the champo league. Wouldn't mind just trying to win it for the sake of winning it. I love winning

...any Italian, Spanish or Dutch team will be tough opponents. Strangely, we seem to always do well against German opposition in Europe.
