You make a very good point. We do need to be slightly careful who we pick as our next manager because unlike Chelsea and City, we aren't saturated with world class players in every position. There is no risk at Chelsea and City in picking managers because their squad is at such a high level that the risk of finishing outside top 4 is nearly zero.

To minimize the risk of finishing outside the top 4, we need to basically continue spending on quality players. If we get rid of the dross, bring in Schneiderlin and Pogba to beef up the midfield for example and a WC centre back I don't think there would be a real risk of finishing outside the top 4 even if the next manager is bad. There comes a point where a team is strong enough to withstand even the worst managers and still remain competitive at a reasonably high level, that's level the Arsenal board said they want to reach.

Part of the reason why I desperately want Wenger to leave is I'm almost 100% sure the next manager will use the transfer funds to clear the crap players we have. Wenger is emotionally attached to really really crap players and this would be fixed straight away with a new manager.

I think the key is getting a proper manager and avoiding the trap that most clubs these days fall into and going for a head coach (and by most clubs I mean Spurs... over and over and over again) such as Klopp, especially, as you say when there is a lot of crap that need clearing out (i think you probably need an entirely new back 7 ( - gibbs and maybe ramsay)). The main problem is there aren't many out there, and looking back on it we were incredibly fortunate to get Martinez and Kenwright deserves credit where it is due.

I guess style of play comes into it as well and I don't know how attached Arsenal fans are to attractive passing football, but it is one of the reasons I always liked them, although Wenger has spectacularly lost the plot and hasn't kept up with how the game has changed (by him ironically) and I certainly wouldn't say you play pretty football anymore.

As for the bit in bold, I would not be too sure, managers (by which I mean Martinez) absolutely love keeping the really crap players with an attachment to the club (and by players I mean Hibbert/Peinarr and to a lesser extent Osman). It will certainly be interesting to see who you guys do end up with (interesting to see Paul Clement so high up the odds).

Interesting watching Will Hughes play last night. Was supposed to be the next boy wonder but it has all gone a bit quiet.

Looked comfortable for Derby & still only 19

Just peeked at the Championship table. I knew Bournemouth were doing ok, but not quite as well as they are ffs! Tough, tough match tonight.

I'm not sure him and Naismith in the same team is a good idea!

I would leave alone TBH as I think there are better bets out there. I thought Hughes would have progress a bit more in truth and if he had, I am sure that some EPL would have taken him by now. Perhaps the hype was badly misplaced?

If they go out tonight, embarrising for them.

They win the cup and celebrate it as a 'trophy win' then embarrising.

But they always win trophies in bad seasons so bets are off.

Chelsea will walk the Milk Cup. Spurs usually bottle it against Chelsea, Liverpool are Liverpool.

I could post Chelsea posing with various trophies after beating Spurs on the way but that's a bit childish.

Anyway, I thought I'd research my original post in regards to Chelsea v Spurs meetings over the years and am quite surprised, not as bad as I made out. You have won 2 games v Chelsea since winning the cup, they've won 6 games, the rest draws:

(Since Spurs League Cup win v Chelsea)
