It's not "playing it out from the back" as a concept that is flawed, it's an individual's decision making.
And it is not even only that, Billy......it is the dogmatic adherence to it no matter what the situation.
By all means build your attacks from the back.....but sometimes an old fashioned welly out the box and into the stand is less risky than fannying around deep in your box with time ebbing away and you are under pressure.
They are all at it now......and they are playing into the hands of an elite few teams which possess the people to play it well.
But the vast majority of teams are replete with players whose decision making leaves a lot to be desired.
And that is a deadly combination......players who are prone to make bad decisions being forced to stick to a rigid system which leaves them little or no wriggle room.
Take that bloke today......he could have either punted it into touch as far down the field as he could get it....or he could have lumped it long, got it wrong and the ball winds up with an opposition player, who promptly scores.
Which is what happened.
On both occasions possession is lost......but in the former scenario you can organise your defence for the throw in.
In the latter your defence is left open to attack.
