Looking at Dean's stats, as far as I can tell, he reached 100 goals in his 101st match.

Happened to be against the rs. He went on to score a hattrick so had 102 goals in 101 matches. all just turned 21.

Well, by your criterion, the same would apply to any striker up to 1990.

Not really.
There was a glut of goal scoring for a few years after the rule change in 1925 while defenders were adjusting.

Up to the 1960s, teams all tended to play with five attackers too, so high scoring was still more common than it has been since then.
