Not sure about that. In Serie A in the 80s, you had Maradona, Zico, Rummenigge and Platini and even they had serious issues with the superb defenders and tacticians of the day. There is simply no premium on defending anymore.

It's lovely to watch, but it's hard to take seriously. Totally unbalanced. There is definitely scope here for an Arteta to grind out a poxy goal and hang on by packing the defence for the rest of the match. The one-off final will suit them too. Atletico of a decade ago might have been primed for this job, too.

tbf in the 80s the Italian formation was 8-1-1 so was a bit harder to score!
