Today’s Football 25/26 Season

Lots of focus on rigid systems and less individual brilliance.

I sound like an old part but 90s and 00s Football was far better than this 'prodict'

In my opinion, the biggest factor in killing the excitement is the insistence on playing right footed wingers on the left wing and vice versa.

Practically every move down the flanks runs out of steam when the wide man turns back on himself to get on his proper foot.

All to fit the “rigid systems” you refer to.

I blame Klopp for it myself, football is more about being an athlete than a footballer these days. Also Klopp's way of manically closing down space doesn't adhere to attractive football.
Guardiola for me.

There's an interview with Thierry Henry about how he had to play when he went to Barcelona. Had to stay stuck to the wing and wasn't allowed to go wandering inside. If he did, he'd get subbed. Ibrahimovic said similar.

Ironic for me, the the man who created the greatest footballing side is responsible for a decade of utter drivel.

Fair point if I'm honest, Grealish definitely had his individual flair that made him stand out took from him when he signed for Man City. Again though Guardiolas Barcelona are still one of the best footballing sides I've ever seen. City at their best were too, an enigma.

even further back, as box office as he was in the press room, i think Mourinho made defensive football really effective here, as well flooding the midfield and making 451/one striker the only real method of success you could have unless you could play Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo up top

mourinhos success killed the strike partnership here. effectively halving the most exciting position on the pitch, and therefore meaning any strikers coming through had to have a bit of everything instead of one centre forward having say pace and dribbling ability, and the other being strong and good in the air

lots of games used to end up with three strikers on the pitch for one side if they were chasing a result, now its rare to see two, with teams generally swapping a striker like for like when chasing a result
