He used to look like a rabbit caught in the headlights at times. He seems to have acquired a harder edge and is on top of things more at Fulham.

Teams inviting pressure further up the pitch to create room behind the pressers. If you can knock the ball past/over/through/round them AND keep possession then suddenly sides are working back to get into shape and defend as a unit.
This is where the technique stuff comes in, a few good passers and some good first touch can isolate a defender out of position or the slower wing back etc.

Like with all things sport and in this instance football, when it's done well it looks a doddle, and you wonder why everyone isn't doing the same, but when it is done badly, the eye rolls, the face palms, the 'told you so's', and the 'just clear it' shouts appear.
