For me, the whole 'Scouse, not English' thing is bizarre. I'm proud of being from Liverpool, but I am a proud Englishman - like I'm a proud Brit.

Most of them don't even believe it or whatnot, but it's become a moniker they all feel obliged to take. I love this city, but some of the slurs thrown at it...

... well, they're not entirely unsupported.

With reference to what? In general, I think there are a lot of positives about the city, like I think there are a lot of positives about England and the UK.

Equally, I understand there are lots of non-positives about all. I don't get why people feel you can't be one and not the other.
