Going back to earlier - are we not the same people that made Rocky IV and Top Gun? I can't imagine an English version of those films without tongue planted firmly in cheek.

You won't see that same level of pride in country from most of us these days, but you still see it in the support for national team players abroad.

Dempsey and Donovan are the most commonly discussed, but McBride is our must underrated player for me and proved himself in England as much as they did. And John O’Brien for me was the best player talent wise but was destroyed with all his injuries. Holden was also really playing well before his knee exploded. You’re right though. Current crop is clearly a cut above and things are looking up.
