Built the bedrock that Benitez benefited from, never got the credit for it.

Good manager. As above, definitely not your typical RS manager.

I obviously don’t agree that Kane isn’t better than DCL but I like him a lot and I also like that he comes across as a nice bloke.

I think there's a debate to be had, and one which really depends on what you want from your centre forward. Thats kind of the point really though isn't it? That the front 3's are actually quite close. I'm not saying ours is better but there is a debate.

Outside of right back and goalkeeper most areas are a debate (we probably don't have a midfielder with the all round abilities of Ndombele, but I'm not sure he's consistently shown his best).

So Spurs are certainly ahead, but not markedly so. That probably says more about Everton than Spurs. The key difference I see, is Spurs are used to winning regularly over the last 3-4 years. You had a shaky 12-15 months, but seem to be coming through that now.

Just seen about Houllier. R.I.P that man.

I think he was really pivotal for them actually. They were faltering a bit under Evans and falling behind a bit with the old boot room mentality- the game had moved on. He dragged them forward, at first unwillingly but very well.

As has been said, gave Gerrard his debut from nowhere but also Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher (there were others). Most of the local players preferred him to Benitez and said he was a far better coach. Pretty sure both Gerrard and Carragher credit him as being the best coach they worked under.

He also broke the hoodoo United and ourselves had over them, which was a big thing for them. They were really unlucky not to win the league in 01-02, I thought they'd do it that season and had been building to it, but ran into a very good Arsenal team and never really recovered from that.

He's probably underrated by their fans a bit. He probably did more to change the culture of Liverpool than anyone they've had from the 90's onwards and laid the foundations for them. A sad loss for them and the game. RIP.
