Toast, didn't realise egg bread was french toast, distinctly unimpressed by it, shame really because I was expecting it to be lovely

I used to make something that I called ' an eggy'.

Use any ingredients you want. such as cheese, ham, mushrooms, onions, beans, bacon etc etc.

Take 2 pieces of bread.
Dip both outer sides of bread ( ingredients side not dipped ) in whisked egg yolk with filling in the middle like a sandwich.

Lightly fry both sides untill egg on outside becomes crispy, and filling melts.

Serve with salad or what have you.

As for toast or fried bread, it's toast for me, though I used to be a big fried bread fan.

There's another type of fried bread in the States known as "frybread" or 'round these parts a "navajo taco". It's superb...especially with just some honey smeared on and sprinkled with bakers sugar, although you can make them a sh*tload of different ways.

To make good French Toast you don't just soak it in egg.

You want a single egg, a cup of milk and a tablespoon of sugar and a teaspoin of salt and a couple of tablespoons of flour.....whisk together then add a tsp of vanilla. Soak some decent sandwich bread cook, then slather in REAL maple syrup.

Perfection.

Right, so to clarify, when I went abroad recently I had french toast, it was on a cruise ship where all of the food was absolutely spot on but did have the weird version of bacon you get in america. Was I eating egg bread?

50/50 did the bread taste eggy or have a battered texture to it
