It was a joke, up their with the most embarresing moment as i've ever felt as a blue. They were practically willing the ball to fly into the net so they scream more abuse at him.

Yeah I remember Reidy got some stick as his time with us came to an end but it never reached the level of stuff Howard's getting.

As someone else mentioned Ratcliffe took his share as well and I remember Sharpy getting it, maybe it was the disappointment of seeing former greats fall from grace but it was certainly more frustration than vitriol with malicious undertones.

It's only ever frustration and probably the true aim is the managers who seemingly can't see what the majority of a 40,000 crowd can every week. I'm sure Phil Neville had to retire himself because he knew Moyes would just keep sending him out to face the abuse when he knew he was finished. All football careers come to an end at or about Howard's age, or they at least starting dropping through the divisions. Not as much now I suppose because of the healthy bank balances they all have.

Kevin Sheedy got a dog's life from some towards the end of his playing career. Lousy behaviour given all he'd, not to mention undeserved. I remember one game where was taking stick then slotted one from 25 yards - the same mugs who were abusing him are then singing his name.

Whether fans should shout abuse at their own players is a difficult issue. If you pay your money you are entitled to voice your opinion, also if you feel the manager is wrong in his selection then how else do you get your point across. On the other hand it is a bit self defeating to abuse the very players you support.
On balance I feel the fans have to be allowed to show their disapproval, booing your own team is alien to most supporters but cheering bad play is hypocritical.

There's a line that I think has been crossed in Howard's case, though. I don't have a problem with booing him when he makes a hashup like he did against Arsenal or giving away a penalty against Leicester. If a player makes a stupid mistake then by all means let him hear it. Yesterday, though, the knives came out early when he hadn't done a thing wrong (in fact, I think it might have been his first touch of the ball). He was getting abuse simply for his being on the pitch.

I was around when the young Colin Harvey,Howard Kendall,and Joe Royle got a lot of stick more that Timmy !

there's only rumours that Sevilla interested - nothing concrete yet. But Besiktas bid is out - they proposed Dnipro only ~3.5M euros, while Dnipro wanted around 5M euro. So he is available and i think for him will be better to play in Everton, than to be substitute to Sevilla's keepers - idk why they need another keeper?

something is not right why Howard has kept his place over Joel last season. would not surprised if there is some clause somewhere stipulating he plays in the league when fit martinez hinted at something in his press conference last week but for the life of me can't remember what he said. but it seemed a bit odd.

I agree that fans can go too far and that everyone's entitled support but has he not contributed to what is happening by getting involved in arguing on social media. He is a professional footballer, be professional. When you are under pressure then get your head down and work at your craft.
