Tim Howard

Thing thats starting to disturb me more and more, we have two England international cb's McCarthy and Barry sitting in front of them, McCarthy rated as a 20-25m def mid by most people and Barry constantly quoted by people as a brilliant defensive shield for the cb's, and yet we are waltzed through with ease by a lot of teams - Spurs yesterday being a classic example

What exactly are Mccarthy and Barry doing then as frankly watching us their not providing the protection that their supposed to be in any way shape or form and provide next to nothing going forward

Played well yesterday but one in 25 games simply isnt good enough.

I will also say Spurs are struggleing to create and score of late.
A bet your a bundle of laughs on a night out, if it wasn't for Tim yesterday we would have been beaten, what do you suggest put Robles in?

Teams attack down the flanks, with kone and Oviedo on the left it easy to see why

I just opened this thread to say the same thing.

I hope his critics remember this. This match proved he's still got it. There were at least three occasions where I'd resigned myself to us going a goal down.
He's still got it now he has to keep it as with our defence we need a good keeper, jags and Barry were all over the place yesterday!

That's not entirely true.

If Howard hadn't played yesterday we might have had a brand new keeper in who saved all Spurs' shots like Howard, but also threw a long ball out to Mirallas who beat his man, then sliced a boss throughey to Lukaku to run onto and slot past Lloris to make it 1-0 in the 78th minute, the crowd goes wild and all have a lovely journey home.

We defend too deeply and we can't keep a "shape" - sitting on the half way line today I had no idea what formation we were playing....

Agreed esk and it's been like this for far too long to say it's a one off. I think Martinez is very naive in that he seems to just let the players do as they see fit on the pitch, such as Kone moving central for a chance first half but then it took him 6 minutes to end up back in his original position. He just seemed to wander around without a care in the world.

Jagielka looks like he's carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. He's that bist worrying about what everyone else is doing he's forgot what he's supposed to do himself.

Barry and McCarthy, the less I say about them will be for the best I think.

All the while esk, there's players on the bench who can do a better job in their natural position.

I'm a massive critic of Howard, nowhere near the standard of what I think we require but this season he's been -

Poor against Watford
Superb against the Saints with a pivotal save before we score.
Superb against Man City right up to the 1st goal and then played a typical Howard performance.
Man of the match yesterday making a couple of saves he wasn't entitled to.

Long may Howards form continue and there will be no complaints from me.
