Tim Howard

Let's not be silly now, mate. If Howard had conceded any of the 3 goals we scored at Southampton nobody would even think about blaming him.

Yes they would, of course they would, we even had fans moaning when City scored a pen last season because he didn't get closer to it.

That was actually me and kurt just winding people up to be honest.

I doubt anyone would blame Howard for a header from 6 yards out which goes in off the woodwork, a shot in to the bottom corner from 18 yards out or a screamer from inside the box. That's being silly.

Let's see the 'points lost' comparison between Cech and Howard at the end of the season. Different league of keeper.

I can't imagine Arsenal let teams walk around and gets shots off at will like Everton do, they kept West Ham down to 4 shots, 50% of which went in and were far easier than the 7 saves Howard made yesterday.

My favourite was someone admitting that a Kiev player had scored a world class unstoppable shot but complained if it had of been a different type of shot he wouldn't have saved it either because he was in the wrong position.

They were blaming him for not saving an imaginary shot ffs! How desperate is that.

I'd blame him for the second goal we scored against Southampton. It's a decent shot by Lukaku but a top keeper saves it. Neither us nor Southampton have one sadly.

You're talking about one game. Tes the best side in the league worked us over a bit and we had a kid at left back. Normally though we don't let many shots in St our goal. Howard's save to shot percentage ratio was statistically the worst in the prem last season so the number of shots he's facing is in some ways irrelevant to whether he's a good keeper or not. Even if he only faces a few he'll make less saves than every other keeper in the league, yet we want to challenge top 4, baffling.

There is an expectation that a Prem keeper will be able to make most 'routine' saves and the odd worldy.
Tim makes the saves I would expect him to make, but that first yesterday is a howler with no excuses for me lads.
Not a top 10 keeper any longer in my book.

It really isn't...he was anticipating a cross.

Yes but he actually acted as if it was a cross! Thats ridiculous and baffling as mentioned.

Thats his main problem, he doesnt react to whats happening, he guesses. You can be aware of it being a shot or a cross but dont just assume its a cross and jump out of the way. Thats just basic bad goalkeeping.

Can't imagine any other keeper in the league diving out the way of his near post like that. Absolutely baffling.
It's really not though, loads of goal keepers cheat inside when a full-back is dribbling down the line, most fullbacks aren't good enough to squeeze it past them.

It was a mistake by Howard to gamble that Kolarov would cross, but there's nothing "baffling" about it whatsoever.

It really isn't though. Let me put it another way...he expected a cross and started moving that way too soon. He guessed.

Doug we need a new keeper, but our resources transfer wise is not there, TH should never have been given a lucrative contract till the age of 39 based on one world cup wonder game, we are stuck with him he is not the best, but I think he has improved from last season slightly his positional sense and his command of his box is a worry, Then he has, and always will be a shot stopper, other parts of the team are just as weak - City were a different class yesterday, Could Robles step up? if he keeps three clean sheets this time he should say in the team, that was a big mistake to drop him last season by RM imo - pre season I thought he looked devoid of confidence, TH has to stop making near post mistakes!
