Tim Howard

According to that piece, when we have been a goal up this calendar year he's yet to make a safe.
The very next shot on target ends up in our net.
How can people still defend this guy
Someone posted that stat a couple of weeks ago on here, there were others aswell just as embarrassing for Tim Coward.

You can not keep playing a keeper in the form he has been in, but Martinez is loathe to drop him I'm sure because he's a big character in the team, 100% he will be a bad apple in that squad if he's dropped for any length of time.

I got this feeling too. While still not being fully convinced.

Yeah I'm not convinced at all that he's got any intention of dropping him after watching the press conference then. I thought he cleverly skirted around the subject saying no position is safe ( though under his breath I'm sure I heard him say "unless your name is Howard,Barry or McCarthy" ).

If he did drop him,he's got a nice reason as he could say with the League cup semi being so important it was a good time to get Robles up and running.

Nope, I fully expect to see our terrible Timmy blagging his way through another goalkeeping display on Sunday

I have a feeling that he won't drop him for Spurs, but Robles is probably planned to play the next 2 in Man City & Dagenham, as they are cup games.

If Robles does well in those 2, then it's massive decision time, because Martinez then has a 'face-saving' out that allows him to keep Robles in the team by saying his performances are too strong to ignore, whilst at the same time not overly criticising/burying his mate Howard.

This makes decent sense.

He needs replacing asap but the whole team is defending appaulingly. I'm hoping jags will make a difference. The defence is being exposed too many times.

He had a better opportunity last season after Robles kept 3 clean sheets in a row though.

This is actually just gibberish.
It isn't a considered response to the question at all:

(From the Mirror)

Roberto Martinez has defended Tim Howard, claiming he is not to blame for Everton's defensive woes.

The Blues have conceded seven goals in their last two home games and Howard was at fault for Stoke's third goal in their 4-3 win at Goodison Park on Monday.

Some fans want Martinez to drop Howard, but the Blues boss says axing him is not the answer to Everton's defensive problems.

"Every player's position is always under scrutiny and we are where we are because of the competition for places we have in the squad," he said.

<We're 11th. We don't rotate or use subs.>

"In the same manner, I don't think it's a situation that is down to one individual. It would be very stupid of us to think the solution is just to blame someone.

<Very true. It's the system more than the individuals.>

"I think Tim Howard had an incredible moment against Newcastle, he had a great save in a key moment of the game.

<What? Why's this relevant? One save? One moment? Seriously?>

"Clearly at home we have not been good enough defensively of late and I don't think it is down to one player.

<True again. It's several players. You're willing to replace outfield players though?>

"But no-one is guaranteed a starting place just because of their name or past, but I think at the moment we are not realising that the experience of someone like Tim Howard is important to help a young team like ours to reach the best level and be the best we can.

<WHAT IS THIS? WHAT ARE YOU SAYING? I JUST WANT TO UNDERSTAND?>

"It's an area where we don't want to look away and we have to defend the box better, but I think that's a team responsibility rather than just highlighting one individual."

<THE TEAM SHOULD BASICALLY BE MAKING SURE THAT TIM HOWARD IS NOT BEING PUT INTO POSITIONS WHERE HE FAILS AS A GOALKEEPER>

Martinez keeping Howard in the team for so long isn't just affecting our position in the league, it's harsh on Howard too. If he's not good enough he's not good enough, and he's not picking himself every week. He should have been dropped a year ago and then his relationship with the Everton fans wouldn't have soured like it has now, after we've all seen him wheeled out once a week only to flap and star jump over balls as they roll into our net.
