I think so too, Klopp will be making all sorts of "luxury name" foreign signings imo. Butland would a fantastic signing. I think Martinez will look for a backup striker to Rom in january and will go for a playmaker/possible GK signing next summer.
Do we ever actually sign anyone in January though? I mean besides McGeady that is. I think all purchases will be made in the summer. I'm guessing next season is when Bobby expects his master plan to really take hold with the young guns having the necessary experience and cohesion as a team.

Think Naismith and Mcgeady will go in january and with Kone utilised almost as a wide player will force RM's hands into signing a 2nd choice striker. Surely he knows as we all do that an injury to Lukaku would kill our season.

Gomis would be an ideal and realistic signing.

Meh I don't really think so. McGeady may very well be on the way out, and that's probably for the best, but if Rom gets hurt, Kone will shift up front, and Lennon or Mirallas will take his spot wide. We've got cover, it just won't be like for like.

Anyways, since this is a Howard thread, he's here til at lest summer. He's been decent enough this season, especially when compared to the standard throughout the league. Stoke got a gem with Butland, but there's not a lot of them out there at the moment.

Unfortunately there are not a lot of good goalkeepers about at present, that is why an average one costs so much at the moment. We are courting trouble with our policy on goalkeepers at the moment, Howard is no longer up to the rigours of this Premiership, Robles doesn't seem to have the confidence of the manager. It looks like Howard has to stay put until the summer, but then he will have to be replaced with a proven keeper. We have run the clock down and no longer have the luxury of bringing in a promising youngster and developing him on, unless we already have a hidden gem on the books. We are going to have to spend big to bring in a keeper who is up to standard.
So Howard to stay until summer and then replaced by a first choice keeper, then Robles has a decision to make, does he stay put and sit on the bench or does he move on and we need two keepers.

Do we know if any of the youngsters like Stanek are looking like they're up to at least being a backup in a year or two? All I remember about Stanek is the video of calamity during one of his matches with the U21s where he practically put the ball in his own net on multiple occasions.

This is just factually incorrect. Sorry

I think we should buy a decent goalkeeper who can do the basics of his job quite well for a reasonable price

But isn't that what we have? x 2 of? Even those who gave up on Howard a long time a go admit at times he is a good shot stopper, can do the basics. We have to replace him with someone who is on another level and much younger, that is the problem, there is a lot of sides in that situation, but right now the list only seems to have one name on it, Butland.
