Tim Howard

He's just not very good. We'll not break into the top 5 again with him in net, a great goalkeeper really is that important in this league. De Gea, Cech, Courtois, Hart, Lloris, will all save their sides about 10 points this season. Howard costs us roughly the same amount.

For the odd good saves he is still filled with basic errors that result in goals conceded, a top GK wouldn't have conceded either of those today.

The 1st yh its poor defensively but one of the first rules of goalkeeping is protect your front post, if it gets crossed and goes in there is not much you can do when the defenders are all over the place but he expected a cross and didnt even consider a shot until kolarov hit it.

The 2nd he has to be braver and risk taking a knock, if he throws himself at it the odds on him either winning the ball or getting a free kick due to dangerous play are way above just standing there and timidly approaching the ball. Again its poor defending but the GK has to be making up for the mistakes and then go crazy at the players responsible.

I thought he played well, as did the whole team

Alas, all the good work up the minute the first goal went in was undone......and then compounded with his failure to raise his arms for the second.

The cruel reality of football is that a striker can miss three gilt edged sitters but emerge the hero if he bags a late winner.

The goalkeeper can be a hero for an hour then become a chump with a match losing blunder.

And that is what happened today, IMO.

Howard had a good game, give it up lads.

Yeah, I just don't think Robles would have had a better game today. Howard's not the guy to get us into the Champions League, but he's unfortunately our best option at the moment. It's a shame he hasn't gotten any real competition for his spot in almost a decade.
