Tim Howard

This statement does not explain Browns, Cubs, Bills, Jets, or Lions fans.

The casual hordes root for winning teams, this is true everywhere which explains the vast army of Southern kopites. But there are a lot of Americans, and a lot of them find glory hunting anathema.
Through the draft there is still a reasonable expectation that they will win it all in 5 years. It just takes 1 QB in many cases. I'm not saying American fans are all glory hunters.

These clubs are cursed. They will win nothing. Even in American sports with all the 'parity' an organization needs to be well run to win anything.

Fans of truly long suffering teams have the same level of hope as Evertonians - maybe we'll be bought and run competently.

Are you saying Everton can't win a Prem title a few years down the road? Cripes, I still think they can eek out a trophy this year if the lads can come to form, I don;t see any roster in Europa that much superior to the blues as to think we can't take em in a given round. I always think they can pull it off, someday they will again.

There are still plenty of NFL and Cleveland Browns fans out there- so I know Americans have no problem supporting teams that don't win anything in a corrupt league.
Sure I can believe it, but Everton is far from the analogy drawn to the Browns. So you disagree that if luck favored the Browns and in 3 years got an incredible QB in the draft they would still have no chance of winning? Browns fans live off that hope. Most Americans don't understand getting excited with Top 4 and other intricacies that must English football great.

I am particularly harsh on Howard. The way he goes down too early in one on ones. The way he flaps at crosses.

He was/is very good when he had no time to think. Given time? He makes me very uncomfortable. I'm not convinced by Joel either, but Howard, even assuming he regains form, is too inconsistent at his age to be our number one.

This is kind of the American keeper style though, no? Better than average reaction players- good at blocking shots, a bit uncomfortable at the "finer" points of the position. It is what makes them great, but also what frustrates europeans when those players end up in significant roles for their clubs. It is frustrating for me to watch Joe Hart or Neuer struggle with reaction saves I have grown accustomed to Howard or Guzan or Friedel and Keller make as well.

We agree though that a new #1 is in order if we are to compete for the league next season. I do not think Howard will take to being a #2 and there are probably still a lot of clubs (yes in the PL as well) that would love to have him.

Oops, looks like I may have. In fairness, Friedel and Keller were in there as well- also a long way off.

Pity us yanks though, as Guzan is on pace to be our national #1 this next cycle. He is a tub of goo ain't he?

I like Tim Howard but would be disappointed to see him brought straight back in ahead of Robles.

Howard was having a moderate season anyway and Robles has been steadily improving with each game as well as results improving
as well. Howard should be made for his opportunity as Robles had to wait for his.
