He had a good season last year but still made mistakes and cost us goals
I've wanted gone for 5yrs he's bang average and costs us more goals a season than southall did in his efc career Can't believe efc fans still stick up for him
The other thing is not just his mistakes it's how often he saves us when we are 1-0/2-1 up late in games and comming under pressure I can't remember the last the happened de gea has already won 6 points for Man Utd late on don't mention Wolfsburg as we were 3-0 and 4-0 up when he made a few decent saves and i will ask this question to every Efc fan that's seems to rate would Howard have 8 yrs at any of our so called rivals NOT A CHANCE

new rule: NO CLEAN SHEETS NO PB&J FOR YOU

"I'd spent my whole life eating PB&Js; somehow, under Jurgen, the sandwich morphed into a natural version of the staple that was practically unrecognizable ... and to my taste buds, inedible," Howard wrote in his new book, "The Keeper,"

Everton: we'll watch you pee, or else

"Listen," I [Tim Howard] said to him [Landon Donovan] on his first game day [at Everton]. "If there’s one thing you need to know to be successful here, it’s this: leave the bathroom door open when you go."
He did, even though he didn’t understand why. Until one day, someone new entered the stall and shut the door. The guys got a giant bucket of water and doused him while he was going.

I had learned pretty quickly that Everton had its own rituals and one of them is you don’t close the door to the bathroom stall.

Ever. Not even when you need to — to put it euphemistically — sit down.

Mind you, these bathrooms are tiny. The whole locker area is small, no clubby chairs, no frills. Some hooks and stools, a refrigerator, and maybe a massage table crammed in a corner. When you’re sitting there with the door open, there’s no one who doesn’t see you.

If Moyes walked in while I sat on the pot, pants at my ankles, I’d shrug, like, Yeah, I know this is weird, but what can you do? He shook his head and averted his eyes, as he did for every player.

ok, general consensus is that i wasn't nit-picking then.

the fact of the matter is, howard is pretty much what moyes was to us. both very very capable of their jobs and both very good at them. But we've got to the stage where we need to kick on to the next level, and howard, just like moyes can't take us there.

distin and jagielka for the large majority have been of the same low standard this season and i don't think Barry can be overlooked in that regard either, but they've all played at a higher level than howard in their careers imo.

howard's always been more inconsistent than he has been consistent during his career you would say, but has always been a great shot-stopper. he seems to have lost that this season because i doubt there's a keeper in the league who's let in more goals per shots on target.

i thought he'd been poor for a few seasons leading up until last season and voiced my concern that we needed a new first choice and i was very disappointed that we went with buying a backup instead of a first choice.

he proved me wrong, but it seems last season was a one-off if the last 4/5 seasons are to go by.

Howard has had some poor games and also some good matches. He's pretty much no different than anyone on else on this years squad.

Thing for me with Howard is, and i've always thought this about him, is that he is so unorthadox.

He doesn't make many normal kinda mistakes really. His handling is pretty good, he very rarely drops a cross or lets a ball out of his grasp/through his legs.

But its the way he tries to save shots he lets in. Strange jumps, slightly wrong positioning/angles.

It's like for a split second before the shot something goes off in his head and makes him do a stupid thing.

He doesn't make saves full stop. He merely goes through the rituals of being a keeper with his goalkicks and catching crosses. When was the last time however someone went through one on one and you thought, 'Howard will save it'? Never. Every time we concede a decent chance it invariably ends up in the back of the net. His posotioning for dirext free kicks is awful, his propensity to be too far off his line and get lobbed, his tendency to fall backwards under headers at the back post, the way he just lets in deflections that a decent dive could have saved, the way he moves too early on pens and one on ones giving the striker the easy option. He is a terrible keeper that got bailed out when he had a good defense in front of him but is now being found out as we have become shakier. Not a patch on Nigel Martyn. Watch the highlights of the Carsley derby and ask yourself whether Howard would ever save a game for us like that. We need a new keeper.
