I think roberto explains it quite well tbh and it is true that GK selection is different to outfield selection.

Howard is still the better keeper at this point. Obvs some won't agree, Howard is another who takes more flack than he deserves from blues.

End of the day, he's gonna be No.1 choice for the forseable and that includes the masively important Europa games. Baring that in mind he has to come back in straight away.

Big plus is that Robles has showed he's not a complete disaster waiting to happen.

ALL managers put there No.1 straight back in even if the stand in has preformed well.

...Howard has been a great purchase and very decent keeper but there is nothing to suggest he's still no1. Managers pick their best team and at this point in time that might well include Robles. Reserves are told to take their chance whenever it comes, Robles has done that and might deserve his place.

Eggs, might? no the word is does!

I've seen an argument put forward that Joel has done well due to the back four playing a lot better. I'd say this probably has something to do with them feeling more confident with Joel behind them. He commands his area far better than Howard and looks more comfortable on the ball when it's played back to him. His distribution is also miles better than Howard's.

Joel's waited for a run in the team, has had one and has performed solidly if not spectacular. To just drop him because Howard's back stinks of favouritism and would be a smack in the face for him.

An in-form Howard is a better goalkeeper than Robles, but Robles has been better than Howard this season, so far. If Howard is back to his golden days like last season, which I doubt though, he should be playing. But as I said I doubt it, and it feels pretty harsh on Joel to bench him right away.
