I'm surprised that you all think Robles is the better keeper.

For me he's only ever had 1 good game for us, against West Ham, and he still let in 2 goals which he should have done more with and then looked like an amateur in the penalty shoot out.

I think everyone was expecting him to be awful for 90 minutes game after game, but because we've tightened up at the back with the return of Stones he's not had to deal with sustained pressure as much and that's clouded people's perception slightly. Howards not had a great season by any stretch but he's still the better keeper, for Robles West Ham performance I would put forward Howards performance against Wolfsburg and him making several good saves that kept us ahead.

I think the injury may have done him some good and gave him time to analyse his game a bit deeper, that and a settled back four should see a return to more solid performances when he returns in my opinion.

If the choice was between a fully fit Howard or Robles for the up coming Derby I take you'd all choose Robles?
Its not that we think hes a better keeper, its just Howard been that awful.

And to be fair to Joel, he is looking better, more confident and commanding as the games go on. Its worth while sticking with him and see how good he can get and assess properly in the summer

Like I said I think the expectation on him before he came in was so low that people are prepared to accept anything from him upto the point of him throwing the ball in himself. He's had one good game but he's hardly commanding and confident, I think we've seen him at his best to be honest and the fact Martinez has openly stated he's looking to add a keeper indicates to me he's not got much faith in Robles either.

I'd easily choose Robles. Since the first West Ham game he's looked good. He had 2 good games against West Ham, a good game against City and kept a clean sheet against West Brom. Albeit in that game he didn't have much to do it won't have done his confidence any harm.

Howard's been crap bar one game. Plus putting him in for Robles would send a horrendous message out to all squad players.

Would it send any different a message as putting Coleman straight in for Hibbert like I said earlier?

The difference is that Robles hasn't been making horrible mistakes leading to goals other than Krasnodar.

Ha? He was in no mans land for the goal against City, and against West Ham he gave Valencia allof the goal to shot at and then stayed on his line for the Cole goal when he should have come for the ball. It's not even worth mentioning the Newcastle or Hull games either.

I could go through all the mistakes Howard has made this season but I don't have a spare 2 hours unfortunately

Basically what you're saying is, both are crap and we need a replacement. I'd agree with that. However Robles has been less crap so should keep his place for now

Ahhh it's a good question! I think it would be very unfair drop Robles and it sends the message to Howard that his form has been acceptable if he returns as soon as fit.

That said, Howard for all his faults this season does command his box far better than Robles.

Hmmmm I can't decide.

And just a quick one - I dont think Robles is the better keeper, I just think that Howard has been so poor that his understudy deserves a shot to prove whether he is/can be the better keeper. At the moment there is still a big fat question mark against Robles and only games will prove his worth one way of the other.

Back to list of replacements - don't you think even Ben Foster would be an improvement on Howard at the moment?

I do take your point though, all the experience points towards Howard coming back in because of his proven ability.

Id actually say the past 2 games Joel has commanded his box better
