Tim Cahill

But where is his best position? I really think he is fairly one dimensional, maybe two, but he's not the sort of player who can fit into any system, but he's also a player that is probably the first one you put in the team sheet.

He's an enigma.

When he is scoring important goals for us he is great and playing well.

When he isn't scoring goals for us he is crap and playing badly.

Thats how it seems to be with Tim. And i'm sure we all love him for the first one.

If he had took some of the good chances he has had recently it would all be the first choice. But he didn't so its mainly the second choice.

I think we've all known exactly what his strenghts are and what he brings to the team so he is always worth having for them. But lately he is having to fill in elsewhere on the pitch so therefor cannot play as effectively, and may well just be going through a bad spell in front of goal. Happens to the best of them.

Once the team as a whole starts to play better than i'm sure he will start to score more and be noticed again. But at the moment he is being asked to be something he is not.

He's been poor lately, hasn't been getting on the ball enough and hasn't been shooting in positions where he normally would. I think he's lost a bit of confidence for some reason, obviously cos we're playing [Poor language removed] but he's missed some chances too.

The captains armband gets me here.

Osman was lethargic as usual, and got the armband.
Cahill has been the same, but also got the armband.

Neither player has upped their game, nor have they inspired others to do so, yet when Yobo was given the armband, he played great.

It can't be good for morale when players who give 100% are overlooked.

To be fair to both Cahill and Osman they where both playing out of position when they had the armband. Neither of them are wingers and they both struggle outwide.

It's got nothing to do with lack of effort or not giving 100%.

What position do you think both players are at their best in?

If I remember correctly, last season people were getting on Cahill's back over his anonymous performances and then Yak got injured. Cahill moved up front and everyone was (rightfully) raving about him. He battles well in the middle of the park for me but is more effective in a forward roll.

Cahill

I honestly think that he is at his best as a support striker or the link to the striker in a 4-5-1. Not getting a chance to play there at the moment and suffering as a consequence.

I agree. Interesting that Moyes thinks he's in danger of suffering burnout - surely if he's already under-performing in his current position, then we can't expect him to get worse.

Once Arteta is back we'll see him rise once more. It doesn't bother me too much that he needs the magician alongside him, if I got used to playing alongside a player of that quality, I'd find myself struggling without him - midfield partner impacts on every aspect of the way you approach the game.

Get Billy and Pienarr either side and push him up behind the strker you´ll see an immediate improvment .He is wasted on the wings he can´t play there.

at times i think he is one of those players first on people list to bang on about ....he seems to be been played in different positions and IMO his best is supporting the front man... i think when he has to start running all over the pitch a lot of tracking back it puts him off

i think he will come good again for us over the course of the season and chances that he is missing now:( will be bread and butter to him come may
