Tim Cahill has been offered $4 million for one season by cashed-up Saudi club Al Nassr in the second-richest contract ever proposed to an Australian international.

With Everton keen to free up its wage bill next season in order to freshen the squad, 32 year old Cahill – the club’s top earner on an estimated $75,000 a week – could be considered expendable after a season in which he only scored three times in 41 appearances for the Toffees.

Sources in Saudi Arabia claim that Cahill’s London-based agent Paul Martin has been in contact with Al Nassr and other clubs in the Persian Gulf, as the Socceroos midfielder ponders his next career move.

Though Cahill has two years remaining on his deal at Goodison Park and is still highly rated by coach David Moyes, indications are that Everton would not stand in his way were he to request a release.

Prior to signing for Melbourne Victory Harry Kewell, Cahill’s Socceroos team-mate, rejected a $5 million one-season offer from Saudi Professional League club Al-Ahli, largely because he didn’t feel his family would be suited to life in the kingdom.

Saudi sources revealed Cahill’s wage expectations are around the same figure. It’s understood he was offered $4.5 million by a UAE Pro-League team last season but decided not to pursue the offer.

Despite pressure on Cahill to retain his position at Everton in the face of rising Belgian star Marouane Fellaini, Moyes remains an admirer of the versatile Australian, saying before the club’s last game of the season against Newcastle: “He’s fit, he’s athletic, and he can do several jobs for us.

“There’s been a couple of games where we’ve been able to change and rest him because we’ve had a fully fit squad.

“But Tim’s been the mainstay of the way we’ve played. There’ll be a time when we have to move on and that will evolve, but not at the moment.â€￾

SELL.

"Tim Cahill has been offered $4mil"

I don't see the part where Everton get any money mate, how are we going to sell him? Have I missed a part in there?

If Cahill is really on $75k a week, than I expect the club to sell him on the cheap and save the 4mil in wages.

The sale/release of Arteta, Saha, Yakubu, Pienaar, Yobo and Cahill should reduce the wage bill be close to 15mil.

Hmmmmmmmm

There'd have to be a substantial cash offer to the club, I would have thought - we all know how much Moyes loves Tiny Tim. But, would family man Cahill subject his wife and kids to a year in Saudi? Cahill is no fool and I'm sure he's aware of the appalling violations of basic human rights that routinely occur over there.

as much as i love tim, he should take the deal. hopefully, there's a big transfer fee involved so it will be both beneficial to both him and everton. tim cahill's legendary status at everton is well assured. (y)

I think as far as efc and Tim are concerned they will feel there is 1 more season left for Tim here. Surely IMO that has to be as a bench/squad player.

Personally IMO If Cahill and Osman are starting next season I would say that's a sign of us havin a poor summer. Although I think they can both play a part as part of the squad.

There's no transfer fee involved in this deal guys, Everton will not benefit from this, why would we get rid of a player for free of Tim Cahill's stature? Sure he's not the player he was, but he's one of our better players still.

You don't know there's no transfer fee. The article talks only of personal terms. Everton will ask for a fee.
Cahill is a legend but he turns 33 in December and his best days are behind him.

We need to move forward

There's got to be a transfer fee. He's contracted to Everton for a few years still and if Al-Nassr want him, they'd need to come to a financial agreement with Everton before discussing personal terms with our Tim.
