Threat of villa

I didn't even think he was this stupid and tbf he looks very stupid.

He's won 1 title in 3 years in a 2 team country. St Johnston have won more in that time! If it starts to go wrong he hasn't got much to fall back on and the fans will take him apart. What is most dissatisfactory here is that he won't have a chance to undo all of Klopps work now. Gutting.

Not sure about that. The RS are so blinkered they will welcome him back with open arms even if he is a total failure at Villa

Hes a stop gap at Aston Villa, until he moves over there. I’m still certain of it.

As long as he doesn’t completely blow up, and takes Villa up the table, he’ll be at Liverpool when Klopp decides to leave, I reckon 1.5-2.5 years from now.

Handle the pressure, show good football and he’ll be there. Managing the cult.

Fanbases of any team in the country except Liverpool will turn on him immediately when the results don’t come. He spent his entire career giving it the big one for Liverpool making bitter jokes about most opposition teams so can you imagine any of those fans worshipping him as their manager now? He’ll never be manager of any other top 6 team for example other than Liverpool because their fans despise him. I can’t imagine Villa fans like him unless he starts winning every game. Classics case of you reap what you sow. He won’t last long anywhere and will end up in the championship, back in the SPL or in the MLS shortly.

Ballsy move from Gerrard to be honest (Or stupid depending on how you see it)

Couldn't happen at a worse time for Rangers when you consider that Celtic are only 4 points behind and the big advantage Rangers had was that they had a settled manager and set up whilst Celtic were still getting to grips with a new manager and system

Haven’t they just announced a massive loss in turnover. He won’t have any money to spend and will need to sell.

Excuses will be made for him regardless, he belongs to that coterie of RS that thinks the game is lucky to have them. Villa are a big club, good recruitment structure in place and depth throughout the squad.

Once the losses start piling up the media and RS fans will be absolving him of all blame. Kind of like happens on here. Except with Villa.

I personally think he will suit the style of play that the cult will want and providing he doesn’t get royally besten at Villa he’ll go.

You’re right, they’ll overlook it all, in the same way they brought in Evans, Souness and Dalglish.

They announced a pretty hefty loss back in May of this year, it was underwritten by their owners and about a third of it was linked to COVID related income issues.

Don't think they'll be in our position of having to sell before they can buy.

Totally agree. I expect every Villa win to be hailed as a tactical masterclass and every setback as evidence of players not being good enough or a board that doesn't back him.

I can already see the BBC drafting the articles now.

Didn't think of that at all mate, good point.

When Conte's "Tactical Masterpiece" against us, has made articles on Sky and BBC, despite their zero shots on target, you can already imagine the scenes. Villa haven't played at Anfield this season yet either, have they? Just checked, a month today (and they've not televised it  ) so there will be unrivalled levels of coverage of the prodigal son returning.

No chance he fails at Villa, they'll throw a load of money at him.

Dalglish won things though. Souness didn't last long due to health issues but least he had a few SPL titles behind him when it was a 3 team league. Supporters will overlook a lot of things and make excuses for failure of a favourite, but some of their's turn on Klopp every now and again. If slippy doesn't do well at Villa I can't see how he gets the RS job unless the owners want an Ole type puppet. And even if he did if he has a bad run of results with next to no evidence he can turn it around he wouldn't last long, they are not going to want another 30 year wait for a title.

Dalglish did win things, you're right, but he hadn't at the time.

Souness came in, with just a smidge more than Gerrard did at Rangers, and he's not going straight to Liverpool. Souness also did a solid job at dismantling their dynasty and setting them back 10 years.

Evans, again, more of the same, in house recruit who had money and got nowhere.

If he does a steady job at Villa, I think he gets it myself. In a day and age where it's never been harder to get your hands on a trophy, and there's huge competion even for 7th place and the Conference League, I'd argue, playing good football and being a European Contender would turn heads. If he goes and plays really negative stuff, that's where it stops.

I think Gerrard and Solskjaer would be a poor comparison, purely because Solksjaer got the job out of desperation. The players started playing cause they hated Mourinho, and nothing else for me. I just don't think he'll need to do as much as people think.

Despite what the RS fans might want, I just can’t see Gerrard getting that job any time soon. They needed to appoint Klopp, generally regarded as one of the top managers in the game at the time, to sort themselves out. Unless Gerrard performs miracles at Villa he’s getting nowhere near the RS job.
