Threat of villa

Sounds like they arnt too happy with Digne. Last 2 games.

He gets forward more but he's a defensive shitshow.

The amount of hit and hope passes he hit today was worrying. Hitting it to people at knee height as well.

Just a [Poor language removed] Matt targett by the looks of it

Does this guy have any defensive responsibilities at all?

McGinn is playing fullback against Newcastle here.

@BlueToff

Gerrard's system is very high risk with their full-backs. He presses them really, really high, so it's no surprise they are getting exploited.

I've said numerous times Digne's best assets aren't defensive - it'd be stupid to say otherwise - but we are weaker for him not being here.

Is what it is though. We just sided with a lunatic for no reason, and so did you

Ultimately mate the funds for Patterson, Myko & to sack Benitez all came from Digne's sale.

I was #Je Suis Digne but ultimately he had to go with our FFP situation.

@ForeverBlue92 couldn't resist a dig mate ;)

But yeah, clearly Digne isn't going to turn into prime Hibbert. Villa fans criticising any player without context of how they're playing is just like Everton fans doing the same though really

I loved JJK's performance yesterday and Mykolenko did well v Brentford, but we're a weaker side for having sided with Rafael

We overspent on both of those players (as in we paid more than we got for Digne too). Big thing was his wages which is fair enough, they're off the books and probably allowed us to bring in Alli and VdB rather than just one of them.

But Patterson for £11m was pretty mad and £17m for a lad from Dynamo Kyiv - also a lot - when you put it into context of getting £23m for Digne

Anyway, hopefully in the long run we can build from it. First priority is staying up

Patterson and Myko are both gambles but our fans have moaned for years about signing 28-29 year olds instead of building for the future.

Personally I think Myko will be fine for next season but I would imagine we may need another RB come in even if an experienced head on loan whilst Patterson gets the odd game here and there to build up experience.

Coleman shouldn't be here next season - as much as he's been a great servant its time to move on Seamus.

Coleman's under contract until 2023 so won't be going anywhere but absolutely should not be first choice. Hopefully we can get safe and then Patterson gets a run in the team ahead of next season, but first things first like

Doubt he'll go myself like but really should be following the Jagielka route and signing for a newly promoted side or Championship outfit to see out his remaining years.

Personally can't see Patterson being ready to play week in week out next season and I just dont think Coleman has the consistency anymore to still be playing 50%+ of games if we have hopes of pushing for europe / a trophy if we have a good summer of recruitment.

More importantly how are Digne's individual stats though? Hopefully he's getting forward enough to satisfy Didier Deschamps.

Coleman should be here for the rest of his career. He should just have less time on the pitch

Said a few days ago that Stevie gee’s reputation was already starting to slip.

He’ll be found out soon enough.
Villa had a bounce with Gerrard. They were probably in a bit of bad form that smith would have got out of. They are now performing to par. Winning, losing and drawing games you’d expect them too. It will still look good on Gerrard because he came in with villa in a false position.

Still don’t think they’re too bad.

The issue they have now, is they’re totally attacking and with Digne they’re so exposed.

Was happy to get £25m for Digne because I felt he’d been regressing anyway. If you’re going to be totally attacking in every game teams will suss you out, unless you’re someone like Liverpool.

Slippy G has a reputation for slipping, just like Spitty C has a reputation of gobbing on cars on motorways.

As for Villa, they are a well run club and like Everton needed money like everyone else to compete. They've definitely been better run than us as of late.
