Thomas Myhre

Having not read the thread, my memories of Thomas Myhre are that he was a more than decent goalkeeper who picked up a bad injury or two during his time (if I remember right, during international duty) and didn't seem to recover. Was a popular keeper amongst the fans and we could have done a whole lot worse than him as we were absolutely wank at the time. Nice to hear him having good words to say about us still. Nice one Tommy!

I thought he looked the bollox when he first came he kept quite a few clean sheets if i remember. Then he got injured and never regained his place from Paul Gerrard who for the record is the worst keeper i think who has been a regular number 1 for us. Maybe on par with richard wright.

I take it you never saw Jim (aka Seamus) McDonough then? He definitely is the worst I've ever seen.

Gerrard was utterly dreadful. He palmed every single shot he could straight back out in front of him. It became a running joke.

Remember that time he smashed into Xavier, knocking him out and gifting a win to Newcastle? The utter clown...

I thought Myhre was generally a cracking keeper. His performance against Leeds in his debut was one of the best goalkeeping displays I have ever seen.

Me too, pretty sure it was 0-0,Tommy kept us in it singlehanded if I recall!!!

yeah deffo 0-0, myhre came for every cross that game, looked a great prospect, speed missed a pen for us that game as well, after me mate telling everyone he's got speed first goalscorer,we hadn't won there for about 35 years at the time

Definitely 0-0, and Tommy was outstanding. I think it was the first clean sheet we'd had there for a while. Everything he did that night was top drawer - I remember coming away thinking he'd be the dogs. To be fair, other than Nigel Martyn I'd say he was easily the best since Big Nev, and that includes Tim Howard IMO. Mind, we have had some absolute rubbish.....all recommended and coached by Chris Woods.......

He never seemed to recover from that error against Villa in the cup 1/4 final.

Yeah it was 0-0. I remember us all in the South Stand shocked that Southall had been dropped. He made some great saves in that game. Gary Speed missed a pen for us.

His save from Nathan Blake against Bolton infront of the Park End stands out aswel.

He was also in the Norway team that beat Brazil in France 98.

Underated Keeper, better than Gerard, Simonssen, but the big fella boots were a tough act to follow.

Major falt of Thomas? He was blind as a bat!! wore contacts, would loose a few as well apparently:)
