Important to distinguish blaming Allardyce in the present and the club overall. The fact we went “toe to toe” with a pretty abysmal Southampton team and got spanked is a damning indictment of all involved in the summer Hollywood spending. And here we are a few months later- playing like and with the squad of a consummately mid table club who’ll never trouble the top 6. Allardyce of course will coast along nicely and will not giving a flying [Poor language removed] about how we pick up our points because he does not care about words like “philosophy”. Nor does he care about entertaining.

I won’t have much of a problem with today’s type of approach in certain games- it’s pragmatic and will save us hidings and pick up points. Needs to show more in the other fixtures though, but let’s see what happens in January. If Andy Carroll comes in then we can start to panic for the long term.
