Football is a results based business.
A manager who concentrates on playing youngsters in a Premiership team is soon to be an out of work manager
I agree with the general sentiment but we've also just had a manager that would rather have two goalies on the bench than put one of the youngsters there. We must be able to do better than that, even giving youngsters a place on the bench and exposing them to the first team must be a step in the right direction.

In terms of actual coaching level then im not sure either way if a home grown/former player coach of Everton is worse than a coach at Ajax.

I do think the main difference is having a playing identity which has worked for Ajax, Barca and others.

Within a 23 man squad im confident you could have 8-10 u21 players with the potential to become starters...hungry and pushing the first team for their positions.
Using City, Utd,Chelsea and Liverpool as a template (top four).
Would they have 8-10 under 21 players in their squads?

Mad isn’t it? I seen on here yesterday that Baxter is now working with the kids, would genuinely think he’d be the last ex Everton player that you’d want working with kids but somehow we’ve managed to do it.

always going to end up with the problem of a serious lack of knowledge for outer areas of the city when all you ever do is hire ex players that are local. Most youth players that do get pro contracts just stay around for years not getting games till they move on mid 20s and move around the lower leagues.

we definitely need to start being more cut throat than being the old boys club as it will hinder or completely stop any progression when we need it more than ever.
There is a different view regarding Baxter. If he truly is fully rehabilitated, what better person can there be to work with the youngsters and warn them of the potential pitfalls

Would have thought United have been close at the bottom end of that range.

Im a bit lost on why we'd be using clubs protected by FFP and premier league profit and sustainability rules as a benchmark.

To break into that ceiling you need to break the mould and do something differently.

The money saved by 8-10 under21s in a squad would be huge in fees and wages. That saving could go straight into the conveyor belt of signing young players and one or two first team starters per season.

Not a bit like having Hannibal Lecter advising the kids on how to get a nutritious diet?

if (big if) its true i seriously doubt the boys intelligence, hes just wasted a month where he had the opportunity to show a new manager he should be involved with the 1st team
Maybe he hasn't gone about it the right way but, in truth, nobody on here has the faintest idea what's really going on other than internet rumours, and some of the verbal abuse in here has been way over the top.

Also, unless you've had children yourself involved or indeed been involved yourself as a young player, the vast majority of posters on here know absolutely zilch about what's involved in the development of these young players from the footballers perspective. We all look at it from the clubs view, without an ounce of consideration that there are the lives, careers and welfare of young people behind all of this.

I have absolutely no qualms in young lads taking time to consider their futures. The bottom line is that, since the emergence of the Premier League, top English clubs have systematically failed to integrate talented youngsters into the clubs first team, including us. Why should we expect a teenager to put their futures on the line out of loyalty to a football club who would be quite happy to drop them like a hot stone at any stage in their development.
