That’s not an excuse, he was really poor. We don’t have to write him off because of a bad game but we don’t have to pretend it never happened either. He needs to do much better than he has done so far.

I have genuinely now watched vastly more of him for Villarreal than I have him for Everton and read a lot about it by people who know much more about football than I do. So I'm judging him as a player right now more on that. And even judging him just on his Everton showing he honestly looks good enough.

Anything can happen with a move - injuries, psychological things, manager hates them, etc etc. But purely as a player he is absolutely sound. Assuming nothing goes particularly wrong he will be really good for us.

Whilst we have much better creators on the pitch now, look at the runs Beto makes. Again and again, even if he doesn’t get it, he keeps making them. Admittedly when he does get it it’s not pretty at all, but Barry needs to at least look like he’s arsed. That performance purely from the vibes was a guaranteed half time hoiking. Managers can’t abide that.

And I don’t give too much credence to settling in, youth etc. he’s played in 5 countries, scored in all of them, French youth international playing in the Euros. This is a weakened Wolves in a half full stadium. When it’s not working out, just run more. Not less.
