Do people understand that he was really good last year in the second best league at just 22 in his first year there? We should be shouting from the hills for him to start over bang average Beto and expect that in time he’s going to score goals in a strong attacking team like the one we’re sticking out there. His involvement in the game is fine and he has not looked overwhelmed at all. It’s just about minutes. He should be getting them!

On a serious note. He's started slowly after each move he's had. In Switzerland he had a particularly rough go but then started banging them in. No, k didn't watch him but I read this from a Villareal fan online talking about him when the move was confirmed to us.

He will start Tuesday and that first goal, when it arrives, will boost his confidence massively. I do think he has more to his game than Beto and there's no argument that Beto is undroppable right now so I'm happy to see Barry start a run of matches here.

They're right though, he was. He's not shown like 'megastar' good, but he was really good for his age, experience and the level of La Liga. You can watch a couple games, look at the highlights, read the scout reports and look at the data and it all paints the same picture.

This is a bizarre hill to die on. Neither Beto or Barry are currently what we’d expect up top (Barry I believe will be). That doesn’t make Paco f’ing Alcacer the answer. Even in his pomp he’d have struggled enormously in the prem with his physicality.

That's fair but again he has played roughly 2 full matches. For now it makes a lot more sense to judge him on his entire season in a top league for a CL club.

It's actually worse that you've watched that much football and still think we should have signed Paco Alcacer instead.

But I haven’t seen him play an entire season for a CL club, neither have you, you’ve just seen YouTube clips like the rest of us. He may come good, he may not. Only want to see him look good in blue not what might have come before us.

It won’t materialise. When was the last time we bought a forward from a foreign league that did well. I personally can’t think of any of the top of my head. All flopped pretty much.
I’d take a player with Prem experience every time.

I think that was the exact argument Kenwright made when persuading Moshiri to sign Maupay rather than the scout-recommended Guirassy

Alcácer was just a name picked out of the air just one of many free agents who we could have picked up for buttons over the Summer window who can actually trap a football and pass to a team mate...son

I have genuinely now watched vastly more of him for Villarreal than I have him for Everton and read a lot about it by people who know much more about football than I do. So I'm judging him as a player right now more on that. And even judging him just on his Everton showing he honestly looks good enough.

Anything can happen with a move - injuries, psychological things, manager hates them, etc etc. But purely as a player he is absolutely sound. Assuming nothing goes particularly wrong he will be really good for us.

He may,but it's about timing. We need European football of some sort to be competitive at even a slightly higher level in next Summer's transfer window. Getting there with a striker finding his way in the Prem isn't the best route.
