2025/26 Thierno Barry

Lack of goal threat is not entirely his fault when our midfielders are clearly not supplying him with chances. He is making good runs behind the defence which is encouraging.
Late in the game he was making a run behind spurs defence screaming for a simple throw in which will put him in a one on one with keeper but Gana totally ignore him.
I'll try to explain. Proven international players who graft/work hard and good at their work, can see potential/ability of a new signing in their first training session. Players arn't stupid, especially feeding strikers from the wings who havent the ability to do their job and prefer to cut inside and try to score themselves. Example - Hojlund at Utd. Garnacho and Dalot cutting inside, trying to score themselves because lack of trust in the striker. Hojlund was sussed out quickly as to his ability in the Prem Lge.

Just give him 5 starts in a row.

We know what Beto is, get a goal in Barry and we'll find out what we have in him.

We arent in danger of relegation, we're just floating in midtable so give the lad you spent 30m on an actual chance.
One we're seeing more of each game, the other we've already seen the full version..

Suburbia bloke on X going on a bit of a rant comparing him to Dunc’s first games and saying he can’t perform with no service etc.

The issue is he has been largely awful when starting, and when taken off Beto has usually done better and overall games have changed. When Beto has started he has also been awful, but when taken off Barry has not in any way shown he wants to prove he should start.

You absolutely will not get any service in the PL stood between 2 Centre backs and not challenging for every high ball with a body language that says you can’t be arsed. No idea if that’s what he is thinking, probably not, but in front of 50,000 judging fans, your teammates and manager, appearances are important.

Be great to give him 5 guaranteed starts as we all wanted a month or so ago, but when starting or coming on has sub, he has been too calm and reactive. The PL is so so tight now, how can we play our worst performing striker (very very low bar) in the hope that by game 4 the penny drops that you have to be strong, aggressive, proactive, arrogant to get anywhere?

As posted above, he is not an inexperienced kid. He has moved countries multiple times, and scored everywhere. He is more worldly wise than some of the unheard of randoms other teams sign and lob straight in. The settling/developing talk will have to stop soon and demands will be placed on his output. Then it will probably get worse for him as his confidence will spiral further.

His past record does very much make him look the correct purchase for us. No doubt about it. God knows

We were on the cusp of that. He started and showed nothing at all in terms of desire or effort (regardless of service, of which we have a lot more of this season if runs are made). Really quite a worrying and scary performance. Took him off at half time, Beto came on, who also started recent games very badly, ran around with gusto and ultimately we played much better.

Barry was rightly benched next game. It was more about attitude than ability.

Positive notes today, despite still falling over after an incredibly weak and fair challenge looking at the ref, he scrapped a bit with the ball and noticed the crowd rewarded him, and he then did it again and won a corner and gave the crowd the big gee up with his arms. He has to learn that. Beto got a lot of credit early on because despite being abysmal technically, he clearly have everything and everyone had patience. Beto’s issue now is we have seen he can be lethal 1v1 against the keeper. This season he is missing chances, and the gusto seems a bit less.

We will support anyone clearly working their arse off to turn things around. That’s what he needs to do first, then the scrappy goal will come, then he can concentrate on body shape receiving the ball and angled runs behind the CB.

But there can be no doubt he was bought as immediate first choice striker, and has now been labelled development potential. Kept hearing Barry’s name from various experts, ToffeeTV etc before summer. Never heard the name of the 19 year old Bournmouth have thrown into their first team and is scoring. Whatever he turns out to be, he hasn’t shown anything like the self confidence and swagger a striker needs to have, even before looking at ability.
