I was 15 and was fuming. I didn't react much initially but I did put the previous seasons shirt (that had Rooneys name on the back) on the guy for bonfire night!

I broke up with a girl the same week, she was one of the toffee cheerleaders (remember them!) not that it was his fault....but it was....turnip headed little....and breath....it was my little brother and his mates I felt for they were about 11 and all of them adored him they cried like the entire world had ended, he is livid now I think he's going to dirty protest bills fod if he gets the chance 13 years of pain gone in one swipe!

I was 38, and upset, but not at Rooney, at the club and Kenwright. I knew the dire straits the club was in. We were floundering. We needed players. We had the smallest squad in the EPL. The Rooney Money enabled us to acquire Bent, Cahill, Yobo off his loan deal and later in the year Beattie, and that also gave the board extra money to pocket . The 30 million we got for him then was like 100 million today. That money got us in CL the following year. Stabilized the club… without it we were picked to be relegated the next season. His kids wear Everton jersey’s. He takes them to Goodison on his off days. He did what he did for Himself yes but also the club. Those that gave him stick to the point he got mad and kissed the badge of manure. You may want to be thankful that you could have been able to go to see him play against us in the Premier league. I’m not sure we would be here today if it didn’t get traded. That’s MHO anyway.

I was sat in the office with Sir Alex and Dour Davie with tears flooding from my eyes. I had to phone my ma, " They're taking our boy", inside i knew that was an Oscar worthy performance and worth the extra £2500 for each England cap he won.

What age were you when Rooney left, how did you find out and how did it effect you?
Mid twenties.

It galvanised my support of Everton as a club rather than individual players.

Vindicated too, as I saw us get 4th when we were really not a good side on paper.
