I'll bump this when he belts one in from 35 yards to send us to Wembley, again.

And I'll just write it off as fluke.

He's been a complete failure here, a floppy Joe.

The best thing for everyone would be to sell him back to Standard Liege and sign our real target, the man Moyes really wanted, Zoltan Gera.

Too lazy to read entire thread.

Based on Moyes track record in the transfer market, I'd say around 5M total.

Its all about squad depth to be fair the best team doesnt always win the leauge, the squad who can call on ready made quality replacements does.

Like i said touching 200 mill.

Liverpool are very close to winning the league. I personally don't think they have strength in depth. Especially in key areas.

What they do have is a player when allowed to, dictates the whole game. Basically a key player that makes all the rest tick.

I don't buy all this you need to have 10 world class midfielders in your squad to win the league, because Chelsea are not winning the league.

Back in the 80s usually one or two players were brought in and made the whole thing fit together. That is what is needed, nothing to do with spending oodles of cash. Ask Spurs, Ask Newcastle? It's all about bringing in the right player for the right money, who will fit right into the club.

Eric Cantona is a prime example. Completely revolutionised Man Utd, and he didn't even cost a million.

Good point mate, but you wouldnt really be afraid of them if Gerrard wasnt in the team would you, typicaly they have been blessed he came out of their academy when he did. Same with Torres they have an over relience on those two players (thank god) which is why they wont ever win the leauge.

To be successfull you need a squad of quality 24 players, Utd have three important games in 7 days, watch them rotate and not break a sweat and still be ahead of Liverpool on Thurs.

Incidently i dont think a big squad nessecarily has to be assembled through money, i think Arsenal are the most talented squad in the leauge and i think they will dominate for a few seasons to come, but thye have been found out this year with players with lack of expierence and poor luck with injuries and yet their squad is quite big but assembeld at a reasonabale cost.

I think Moyesy is in the process of building his next future team with the young players we have bubbleing under the surfice at the club, i heard a strong rumour that hes seriously going to go in for Fabian Delph at Leeds if they dont get promotion and (i stress this is only a rumour), but i like the sound of it, i also heard hes made personal checks on him too, could all be rubbish though. Wheather we get him or not is a different story, like Ramsey last summer i imagine the money laden clubs will be in for him too, still think its a pity we didnt get Aron Ramsey in the summer incidently.

Anyway if your prepared to invest in the young talent i think its still possible to build a title winning squad and with the finacial exchange being what it is the smart money to be spent this summer is in the lower leauges on players with future top premier leuage and possible international careers ahead of them.

To be fair to liverpool that hasn't been the case this season, they have won games without Gerrard and Torres. They beat Man utd without both and Torres and Gerrard have only started alongside each other about twelve times this season.

There closer than people think to be honest.

Fabian Delphs valuation is stupid, hes only 19 and hes looking good in league 2, even I could do that. I bet Ramsey regrets picking Arse, hes hardly played, its not going to help his progress.

The rs have won games without Gerrard and Torres, but i very much doubt they would be where they are if they didnt have those players.

As somebody else pointed out, to win a title you need 2 maybe 3 players of World Class ability. We have lots of very good players, but I dont think we have anybody that is trully World Class. We do have Arteta and Cahill, players who you couldnt really class as World Class, but players who could very well win you games on their own. They just need a few players around them.

Its all about dimensions. Sometimes its hard to break teams down, away from Home its mostly tough and you need that little bit extra. We dont have a plan b. Thats not Moyes fault, hes done wonders getting the best out of the players we have and playing them in a system that works.

What we need now is 1 or 2 players to take us to another level, well its what we have needed for the last few years to be fair. We keep getting that little bit closer. I mean last season we only really lost to the top 4, this season we have matched them in games and at times beat them.

So if we are going to progress furthur, a ball playing creative playmaker is needed, a ball winning, attack breaker is needed and a pacy scare the **** out of everybody winger is needed. Im not saying we would win the league, but we would be closer still.

Quite a useful post this one, well done Goat. Your improving.

I dont think we are as far off as people think. Yes we need strength in depth but not too much- Moyes works much better with a smaller tight knit squad.

£50m would make us at least top 3 challengers in my opinion:

Players I think Moyes could go for to give them extra boost and develop their possibly stagnant careers:

Kranjcer- Would probably cost around £10m, a great talent looking to find the right team.

Morten Gamst- Again I reckon around £10m- a superb player that has gone a bit stale.

Nugent- I think he would pour his heart and soul into playing for us and would probably only cost around £2m.

Tuncay- A great player that runs all day long, would offer us something different in attack and again would probably cost in the £3m bracket.

Glen Johnson- A maurading right back that can get up and down the park- again offer us something a bit different. £8m

Moutinho/Gonzales- A midfield player in the £15m-£17m bracket that can change a game.

Add with these players the development of Rodders, Gosling and the fitness of Vaughan, Yak and Arteta I really think we would a very competent squad.

what we need are a half dozen more players of the calibre of Cahill, Arteta, Jags and Lescott.

Those four cost about £14M all in, so for 6 - somewhere in the region of £20-22M plus a few gems through the Academy (Rodders, Gosling and maybe Baxter).

am going to have a go at that Euromilions thingy on Friday, so should have a spare £40M to put an extra tier on the park end and re roof the other stands too. You're welcome
