Mudryk getting in to some bother for singing along to a song and saying a racial term. So singing along to a song that includes a racial term is racist and to be condemned, but recording the song and releasing it with said word is not.

Any thoughts?
Easy answer. There are certain words that white people cannot say, because it is not acceptable in any circumstances. Black people can use that particular word, because they have taken it back as a form of endearment amongst themselves.

I’m very suspicious about the “any thoughts?” here though. Very Tucker Carlson style of just asking questions, even when they have a very blatant answer.

Just looking to see what others opinions are. I think it's a real Pandoras box.

It really isn’t. Black people can say that word, white people cannot say that word. That’s really all there is to it.

Anyways Mudryk’s apologised and removed the video, I think that the matter can be left there.
Yeah i fully agree on the use of that word. But remove that word and add in any other slur and does the same logic apply? And on that basis where does it end?

Taking out the obvious terms, there can be a huge difference of opinion on what is and what isn't offensive.

Come on man, surely you don’t need me to explain what’s unique about the n-word in this regard.

I’ll say I haven’t seen the video so can’t get into how he says it but if a 20 year old lad is singing along to a song it feels very different to throwing a word around as an insult . Although Given his profile He’s obviously going to have to apologise as it’s clearly Ill judged.

Certainly im not saying “why can black people say it and white can’t ?” , just trying to apply some context .

I think it's the wider implications of crackdowns such as this. It sets a precedent. How far does that go and how far back will people look into others social media to pull them up on what they have sung along to in the past.

I'm sure if tik tok and the like were around when i was a teenager and Eminem appeared on the scene many videos would have been made reciting the lyrics to his songs and we all know how explicit some of them were and how many people could be offended by the words used.

Such a tricky environment out there for younger people to navigate.

I mean wider terms. Think outside of racial slurs.

I don't really understand where you're coming from with this mate to be honest

I think most 20 year olds today know you shouldn't be racist/sexist/homophobic etc and that doing so will get you in trouble

If you wrote something offensive on My Space 20 years ago when you were 12 then I think it's a bit different to writing or saying something offensive today as an adult

You’re not wrong but this was a 20 year old in the Ukraine , it was a while when I last visited there but to say it was in the 70’s would be being generous.

As I say I’m not trying to completely defend the situation just trying to say to put it where I think it probably should be , in the worthless opinion of a Middle Aged white man .
