Ok, explain to me your way of thinking, what makes Orwell so great a writer?
Pointless having a literary conversation with someone who has never read the author in question, bit like a man trying to talk to a woman about the pain of childbirth.

Tell you what, go and read some Orwell, absorb his message, then ask me the same question.

Actually, it doesn’t have to even be Orwell, just go and read anything that isn’t chewable/washable with brightly coloured pictures on each page.

I was asking because after reading 1984 which is so forgettable, i thought someone would enlighten me about its merits.
I haven`t read Animal Farm, but The road to Wigan Pier is lost to my memory also. Both of the books i`ve read by Orwell have been nothing to shout about, good ideas yes but as for literary masterpieces- nope.

Any books you could recommend to us?

But why did you bring Orwell into the conversation, to defend your point of view, if you disagree with him?

1) Context is important. Asimov writing about things that would not come to pass until decades later is impressive. The better part of a century later, this may not seem as impressive to you at first glance. Orwell did very well for himself on this dimension. 1984 and Animal Farm were prescient indeed.

2) You don't have to be a 'great writer' in the literary sense to be a 'great science-fiction writer'. Bradbury was a super-strong writer, judged on literary terms. Orwell and Heinlein were good. Asimov and Clarke were average.

They are all legends of science fiction for a reason. Asimov and Clarke made up for technical weaknesses on the ideas side. All five were extremely influential, and remain so. Heinlein probably comes off the worst of the five in terms of long-term legacy, but Starship Troopers has been retold well by two successive generations. Stranger In a Strange Land was one of the big counterculture books. All five writers still matter.

Not even close to what you did. You self-righteously intimated that everyone but you buys into "main stream schtick" when you wrote,

"Your main problem is that you still, even after everything still believe the BBC main stream schtick still"

as if you had some rarefied inside knowledge that no one but you possesses. And after then telling us all to watch an Oliver Stone documentary,

"The 2014 thingy didn`t get much hype but have a look at the Oliver Stone documentary"

you then can't even get the most basic of facts correct:

"There was a coup in 2014 led by the US - phony elections etc and they put Zelensky in, he`s a puppet."

If you're gonna act self-righteous about how we are all sheep buying into mainstream media, you might--at the very least--have the resolve to get it right and note that Zelensky was elected in 2019, not installed in 2014. But that's obviously well beyond you.

A few other quick points that are also beyond you: 1) Oliver Stone is very mainstream, having won 9 academy awards, 4 BAFTAs, and 10 Golden Globes, 2) Oliver Stone's documentary is laughably biased and evidence-free, and 3) Stone is a noted Putin-apologist and Stone is currently eating crow and doing mental gymnastics in an attempt to reconcile his decade-long fellating of Putin with the current Russian invasion of the Ukraine (see his facebook page post on March 3rd).

I watched Oliver Stones documentary ages ago so forgive me Your Majesty for not remembering the exact name of the gangster installed by the US ....and the US staging a coup is the main point - i don`t ever remember the msm mentioning it hence my derogatory flippant " the 2014 thingy didn`t get much hype"
Seeing as how you bleat on so much about being called sheep, where is it that i`ve used that term for you sisters@? I`m sure you`ve done enough raking through my posts to try and get me banned so you should easily find some for a magical "gotcha Oddball" moment.
The bile oozing from your post is probably equal to the contempt i show you sisters@.
Why didn`t you put a few ? in to try and mask your fuming.
