The Waiting Game

*sigh*

The fact that kids like that were immediately given squad numbers is more a reflection on how desperate Everton are rather than the placing of a question mark against their signings as youths to be flung into the reserves for a few years.

I must say, I wish I could see it all as 'a laughing matter'.

Apart from the fact they both played first team PL football of course.

A timer on the internet created by depressive Anti-Kenwright protestors which doesn't actually present any accurate data, but merely exists to gives more fuel to the lynch mobs? I stand by my thoughts...that is a laughing matter.

The way the club is being mismanaged at an executive level? Definitely not a laughing matter.

Agreed.

We don't have money but right now we have a fair quality squad which when completely fit and on song can nail any team pout there. The simple problem however with not signing players is that you can't assure the top prospects like Rodwell amd Fellaini that their future lies here. We couldn't assure Rooney 7 years ago and we couldn't do the same for Pienaar( we couldn't even pay him 80k) and so they left.

Surely we can sell Fellaini and Rodwell and get around 45 million pounds but we can only sign a good quality player, not a top quality players cos he will need a sign for ambition after a couple of years. Pienaar left after 2.5 years and dare I think that Fellaini is probably thinking the same. Is he gonna say "NO" when Madrid,United or Milan come in knocking at the door?

These players want to be a part of Everton but we have to sell him to raise money or these players will have to move in order to achieve something. The players that we will replace them will be good quality players who are not consistent( look at Yakubu ) and ultimately you'll become fed up of such players(Bily..another example).

So if you have 45M pounds after selling then:

1. If you sign a top/worldclass player then can we assure him of ambition?
2. We'll ultimately have to sell any good quality player to raise future funds or he'll fade away.

This is the problem with the "waiting game". Even spurs seem to fail matching the ambition of Luka Modric and he wants to join Chelsea. All this is after spurs qualified sormed into the CL and signed Van der Waart ( a top quality player )

Those quotes were not meaningless, they are simply passionate words that can often be found in mission statements in a lot of businesses that succeed. You quite rightly quoted that we could have been a bit more pushy after the CL. These are the times when we should have 'speculated to accumulate' not sat back and invested.

I understand your point, but each decision is made in a context. Remember before our 4th place finish, if you believe the story, until we sold Rooney we were on the verge of adminstration. So, you've just beaten off administration, you finish 4th, you don't know how you'll do in the CL. Would you risk the possibility of administration again and go the way of Leeds or play safe?

Most people would play safe, and that is exactly what the board did.

Treading water isn't sexy management but you have to say that Leeds Utd is a real example of getting it wrong, and now we are hearing about Birmingham (which I suspect is more wishful thinking) which is very worrying and hopefully an example to those who believe that racking up debt is a good strategy for progress.
