You wanna play 2,2 foot 2 midgets in the middle of the park, in the 2018 premier league?

Mate?
Welcome to Everton in the 2018 premier league???
Gomes, McCarthy injured.
Frauderlin really?
Against Arsenal's midfield, yes.
Set up should actually suit Sigs strengths.
Huge weaknesses, but would risk them this match with a chance to win.

Agreed but going into the summer would you have said CM was the absolute priority?

I'd have said CB, LB and some genuine creativity and the top end of the pitch. Then CM.

We got all of that in but are yet to see the benefit.

We've got Marco Silva, we are therefore always going to be open and leak goals. I'm ok with that provided we are clinical.

I'm hoping Mina is our Van Dijk, a powerful, front foot defender who leads the back line. We've seen the huge improvement across the park buying a quality CB can bring. Then Gomes in alongside Gueye and we have on paper a good side.

What SD is wanting to do is blame our losses on 3 players which is just MAD.

You say proper protection of the defence would have helped by the way, whilst you are correct to a degree, let's go quickly through the goals

1. A defensive midfielder may have cut the initial pass into Arnau' but does that remove Zouma from responsibility. He was sold a one two OVER his head. Then Digne was nowhere to be found as Yarmolenko tapped in.

2. Pickford passes the ball to West Ham. Zouma and Digne then show him inside onto his left foot.

3. Number 1 repeated albeit on the ground. Sure the first pass may have been cut out but what is Holgate doing? Completely sent on a merry dance by a one two.

So yeah, the midfield could have done a touch better but by God, are we really exonerating the keeper and defence? Throw in my previous post about the sitters missed and is the answer really "the Unholy Trinity"?

Not for me.

I think on your first point, that highlights how big a job silva has. I just hope he is afforded time to build his own teqm, because in my opinion bar pickford, coleman and walcott, there is a question mark on every player wt the club before silva wrrived.

The 2nd goql, yes that is a stupid error and cant reqlly blame the midfield for that.

The other 2 goals, its not as such the individual moments, but if the midfield are not 1)winning the ball and harrasing midfirlders to put presure on and force mistakes 2) taking the ball off the defenders to relieve creative responsibility off them and let them concentrqte on there job -defending

Defenders get pulled out of position due to being under presure and feel exposed. If holgate was protected would he of stepped away from position? Same with zouma?
As the senior 3 players in that team on sunday, with a defence of an average age of 22, they needed to help them. But they didnt

V Arsenal (only)
Diamond midfield
Less recycling through mids/defenders on the high line
Less overlapping than usual from Kenny and Digne, stay back and cover more
Soak up the pressure, cutting off the passing lanes
and attack with pace, counter with front 3
hope Bernard has a good passing range

---------Richarlison---------------------------- Walcott----------------
-----------------------------------Sig---------------------------------------
------------Bernard-----------------------------Davies-------------------
----------------------------------Gana--------------------------------------
Digne--------------Zouma-------------Holgate----------------Kenny

Lad you would seriously need to sit down in front of your wife’s dressing table and have a good long hard look in the mirror and constantly repeat
Association football is not for me

Individually they seem like they should be ok but the collective part is not working for us.
I feel Gana gets far to easy of a ride. Nothing like the player he was in his first 10 games for us. His shooting and passing is a disaster. Morgan and Siggy just don’t seem to fit.

Still very early days for the manager. We need to give him time to see what he’s going to do to sort it out.
Gana's passing (anything over 5yds) and shooting are awful... but then so were Makelele's. That's not necessarily disqualifying, IF he's used correctly.

Against West Ham though, the plan seemed to be to have Gana as our major playmaker - he was the first option on every single attack - the player everyone else seemed to look to to build the play. He's utterly incapable of playing that role. Meanwhile Sigurdsson hardly saw the ball.

I am not learning anything new here.
Yes, our midfield is not very good.

This trinity will not leave Everton for 'bigger' clubs as they are not good enough.
Certainly not any of the Sky 6.

I would have said sell them all before the defeat.
But only once we have replacements in of course.

The thing is if gana(overrated by loads of our fans) and Schneiderlin can’t dominate that West Ham midfield, what chance have we got. Would we be happy buying Rice and noble next season.

And I disagree with @mkrudden, I don’t think Gomes with Gana will solve our problems.
Gomes will hopefully turn out great, but I don’t see a future for gana, he certainly doesn’t fit the type of number 6 Silva wants.
Someone who can at times split the centre backs, get the ball of Pickford and start our attacks. As well as have the ability and Nous to protect the centre backs.

That.

Gueye shouldn't be going over the half way line.

With Martinez when Baines and Coleman where bombing forward at the same time, Barry would drop to make a 3 or at least just sit right in front of the back 2 and mop everything up.

Against West Ham, Schneiderlin and Gueye were just doing what ever they wanted to.

Yep. The simplistic truth is if in days gone by Lukaku was on the pitch instead of Tosun/Niasse; it would have likely been 3-3 at least on Sunday. We just don't have a clinical enough striker currently. Tosun is OK; but we're not at risk of Man U or Chelsea coming calling for him.
Tosun is not Ok he is up there with Bernie Wright and Rod Belfitt........
The Strach was a bigger nuisance than him upfront........

And your selections, formation, tactics would be?
Against Arsenal?

And that'd be MY dressing table thanks very much

Pickford
Kenny
Zouma
Holgate
Digne
Schnederlin
Gana
Walcott
Siggy
Bernard
Ricarlison
In a dreaded 4/2/3/1 away from home

With either or both of Gana / Schnederlin told to cover the upfield runs of the full backs as a matter of importance.
Walcott and Bernard won’t do it so that job needs to be delegated to 2 players and make sure they do it
Siggy covers enough ground to allow him to get back into Gana/Schnederlin position if they go wide to cover
Only one full back allowed over the half way line at any one time with the non attacking FB tucked into the centre to allow CB’s slide across to cover attacking full backs
It’s basic coaching but it’s up to the players and concentrate on their basic jobs

Schneiderlin & Gueye couldn't cover a song !!

Schneiderlin & Gueye couldn't cover a song !!
Well that’s their job as DMs and there is no one else available to do the job
Please don’t say Davies
Defensive duties are not his strongpoint
I just want to see us having a go at Arsenal
Not expecting a win but I want Silva to send his team out to have a good go at winning the game
