Have we not just signed someone who can play as a striker? and done just that when he came on against Villa?

Yeah, 'can play as a striker' being the key point there. We still need an out and out striker who can come in for Jelavic when he's injured, i see Mirallas and Naismith as playing on the wing or behind Jelavic the majority of the time, and we still haven't got a wealth of options.

We use a formation that features a lone striker. We have Anichebe and Velios, both of whom scored goals in that position last season, and both of whom we should actively be using to give Jelavic a break in the last 20 mins of games where we are comfortably ahead (like the Villa win). It has been said repeatedly that both Mirallas and Naismith can also play that position if needed. Whilst I wouldn't turn down a shrewd signing or a bargain, we don't need to be spending millions on a striker.

I agree we have Vellios and Anichebe who want game time and their goals/minute ratio last season can back them up. Then we have Naismith, Mirallas, and Felli who can all do a job there.

We have had 11 'outs' so far this close season I think (including loans) and only 3 'ins'. Admittedly some of the outs were fringe players but still it seems the numbers are looking even thiner than usual. there are 23 listed on the OS but that includes Junior and McAleny, but not Baxter???

Baxter got released a while ago. You can't really count fringe players as there's a steady drop in of them from the youth ranks and players like Vellios have stepped up to the first team. We still need a couple of new faces, but it's not a total catastrophy if we don't strenghten. We're boss and all that.

If we had an injury or two in the first two matches or we lost both matches, I don't think anyone here would be saying we don't need to strengthen. We're short numbers in a few positions and need strengthening regardless of the current results.

We'll do well with what we've got, well do beter with more, we'll do worse in next seasons transfer window if we get them though.
Whats for the best? Who knows? No I.
Either way Moyes will get Morrocan Messi's or Lithuanian Pele's for a few mil if he wants to risk them, I am sure his short list is anything but short.

Hope we make a couple more signings. We have a good 16 man first team squad, just need strength in depth now. A good right winger is my prefered choice.

Come on Victor lad, have some ambition will ya and demand first team football or a transfer to somebody else!

I'm fully expecting a Drenthe/Straqcualursi type loan or two (probably more like a Castillo/Jacobsen) before the window shuts, even if he's just bringing in players to make up the numbers this has been a great window. If we did get someone permanently who will challenge for a starting place I'd be ecstatic!
