If we do manage to finish say 7th this season then I do believe Martinez has similar quality as Moyes, that is at least to give stability (top half PL club status?) to this club given we have limited resources. I still have question over his signings. Will he be able to sign gems for low price and guide them to become international players, thus selling them when stocks are high? We all know that this is the method for this club to survive because we are skint.
He inherited a top 6 side from Moyes so for me, if we finish below the like of Swansea and West Ham (yeah how?) then that is quite a failure. I believe that there is a huge gap in terms of quality between the top 7 team and the rest.
Something I can agree with you harris. I do think the team played alright yesterday. The same old, we played well but failed to get 3 points despite the run of play. Norwich were lucky with their goals although our defence lost concentration at the sametime.
The problem with that is though its 2 totally different ideas of how the game should be played.
Moyes was happy to get a goal up and defend, or go to away games with the mindset of not to get beat, ie play for the draw. This is not me having a dig at
Moyes by the way as we were successful doing it. Martinez meanwhile seems to have the ethos of going out to win every game. Whose to say which is right or wrong for us, but i will say i have liked what i have seen from Martinez so far in how he sets the team out and how they are allowed to play without any fear.
Every manager has to have time to build, this is the problem with so many teams the last few years. They give a manager 8 - 10 games and then sack them. How can anyone do anything in that amount of time? Time will breed confidence and familiarity through the team and club as a whole to the new style that is being rolled out by Martinez. We as fans have to have a little patience as there are bound to be a few teething problems whilst this gels.
It just seems to me HK that you already have made up your mind about Martinez without giving the guy a fair crack of the whip. Cut him some slack and enjoy the new tippy tappy football we are playing, whether that be with Mccarthy or not
