True. But there was more than just the odd glimpse that he had it in him. Also add in the factor that he is with better players for reasons he has improved. Hard not to look good with the likes of Silva and De Bruyne around you.

I don't mean he didn't have the glimpse of quality in him, but he was a bit Mirallas with it. Now he's either showing the glimpse or looking decent at least. Clearly that's also down to him being around good players, as you said, but still.
