The Sammy Lee Opinion Thread

Even before the win, I can't say I'm massively bothered about Sammy Lee the coach. I'd have loved Benitez as manager so it would be hypocritical of me to turn my nose up at Lee.

To be honest I also thought that Benitez would have done a great job here. He would have loved playing squad rotation with 3 No.10s.

Only scousers will understand some of the comments on this thread. It's stupid comparing Lee (a boyhood scouse red) who played for 10 years for them, with Kevin Sheedy, an irish reserve team player who couldn't wait to leave them to get first team action. As for Beardsley, he had success there but is a geordie and is Newcastle through and through so would have little more affection for the RS than us.

Gary Ablett would love a word..
It's nothing to do with Scousers at all. It's to do with, does he still fondle himself to Liverpool FC? If the answer is no and he's good at his Job and is professional about it. Then great, for me he's alright.

He celebrated wildly when at Southampton and they scored a winner against that shower from over there, so if he does something similar next week, that'll do for me.

You know Baines supported them as a kid and on the flip side Carragher supported us right? For us as fans it’s very easy to sit on our high horse and get all tribalistic but for footballers they do what’s best for their careers and best for them financially. Same with Sammy Lee now.

We don’t have to like it or actively support it, but he’s here to do a job and I highly doubt he’s on some secret double agent mission to ruin us for the RS because he last played for them over 30 years ago. As another poster has said, I’ve seen him celebrate winners against them when he’s been a coach at other clubs. Like I said, footballers support the club they play for and coaches support the clubs they work for. It’s literally in his active interest for us to do well. It’s kind of his job.

Sammy Lee displays more Evertonian passion today than Steve Round, Graeme Jones and Erwin Koeman did in 6 years.

He’s a scouser.

He knows we’re actually huge. Let go of the fume lads.
This makes it all the more remarkable for me. Ok, he's not doing it for free, I get that, but he's chosen to cross the park, and if it winds the RS up so much, that'll do for me.
Besides, if there's one thing following us has taught me over the years, especially this season, there really are more important things to worry about, especially an ex red!!

As a Scouser I'm not that bothered when talented ex-reds like Gary Ablett and Sammy Lee join our club to help us out. In fact, I think it's a good thing.

What irks me is when it happens the other way around, like when Barmby went there.
