The Sammy Lee Opinion Thread

If I am honest with you, there are some of their players over the years that I quite like and whom seemed to survive their spell at The Pit and emerge with their soul intact as they never played up to the stage Kopite caricature as personified by Kenny, Fowler, Carra, Nichol, Redknapp, Slippy, Big Nose, Alan Kennedy etc.

Sammy is one such IMO.

Others include Kevin Keegan, Steve McMahon, Mascherano, wee Mickey Owen, wee Reem, even Souness to a large extent.

One would think we had hired the devil, and that the board is doing their best to get the fans to turn on the club.

Come on guys - grow up!

Lee has been hired because of his ability. And I for one think that he could be the one to get the players to wake up and get some work done.

Big Sam no doubt wants him as he is rated among the best in the country. That is good enough for me. Let us get behind the management team!

This is still the most unpalatable part of the whole thing. He’d never be accepted even if we won the treble.
I'd risk liking Sammy Lee if we won the treble.

Heck, I would even learn how to spell our manager's surname if we did that.

Couldn’t give a flying one as long as he does the business.

Who knows he might even turn for the better.

Good luck LFS.

The one thing that matters....is that Sammy Lee is by reputation and qualification one of the top coaches in the league.
Arseholes!
Always amuses me when people try to rationalise supporting a football team.
Supporting your football team is based purely on irrationality and emotion. Otherwise we’d either find something better to spend large sums of money and time on than watching a group of overpaid men kick a bag of wind around a bit of grass, for no discernible reason. Or we’d pop down the road to be entertained by Man. City ( there’s usually plenty of seats available after all)
We don’t because we emotionally attach ourselves to our club or tribe.
Players who cross the park have a chance to prove themselves and alter allegiance and perceptions. Lee by contrast , is a dyed in the wool RS legend, who we used to despise and mock with a passion.
He is a quintessential member of the RS tribe and understandably proud to be so.
For those reasons I doubt he will ever be fully accepted here. But as long as he does his job , keeps his head down and his red gob shut, I reckon we’ll all get by.
If all else fails I’ll just remember that this too will pass.
Kopite meltdown on twitter is enjoyable

‘SOLD YOUR SOUL LAD. NO ONE WILL REMEMBER YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS NOW LAD’
If anyone has sold their soul lad, It's you! Don't twist the tale to suit you, there a lot on here that have sold their souls also.
A few weeks ago most of our Evertonian support on here were screaming for Tuchel to be our manager, have none of you got
a memory?

Directly from RS:

Gary Ablett 1992 (RIP- can't believe it is SIX years in January) -only player to win the FA Cup with both clubs
Peter Beardsley 1991 £1m (Everton's most expensive signing from Liverpool)
Alan Harper 1983 (though on Liverpool's books, he never made a first-team appearance)
Kevin Sheedy 1982
David Johnson 1982 (started at Everton, went to Ipswich Town then Liverpool then back to Everton)
Johnny Morrissey 1962
Jimmy Payne 1956
Dick Forshaw 1927 Only player to win the League Championship with both clubs EDIT "Richard"...does this mean that anyone with the shortened version of that name can never see it on GOT?? :-)
Harold Uren 1912
Benjamin Howard Baker c.1910

Played for another club before Everton

Arthur Berry - Played for Oxford University in between
David Burrows - Played for West Ham United in between.
Don Hutchison - Played for West Ham United and Sheffield United in between.
Dave Watson - Played for Norwich City in between.
John Gidman - Played for Aston Villa in between.
Sander Westerveld - (Loan) Played for Real Sociedad and Portsmouth in between.

How have I sold my soul? lol

Yes I wanted Tuchel - I also don’t work for EFC and have no input on who they employ

So because Tuchel has not been employed and the club have hired Sam Allardyce and his chosen assistant and coaching team I cannot support them for risk of selling my soul? Sounds a bit crazy that when we don’t even know if Tuchel was approached

It’s obviously funny that after all the banter they’ve been dishing out at us getting an unfashionable manager, the tables have turned on them like they always do for any supporter - isn’t that what football is about...ups and downs and unpredictability?

I always look for light relief - maybe that isn’t your style and that’s fair enough
