The rest of the season

Last night will make zero difference to how the rest of the season goes. We will play the same system with the same players whenever available. No players that aren't currently getting regular minutes will get game time without a raft of injuries and/or suspensions and even then we'll probably play people out if position rather than try and prep out of favour players for next season. We are in football purgatory.

George needs to be given far more of a go unless it is already decided he is coming so Moyes would rather play him more next season.

But again it isn't trusting another talented young player with mobility in final third in favour of slow and steady guys who can keep shape out of possession.

It works away from home. It isn't working much at home.

We've seen Alcaraz remain on the fringes even after contributing to home wins earlier on in the season so that is what I'm looking at Moyes now to do.

He has given Armstrong a wrong...but again not in his best position and mainly asked to do a defensive job.

Last night felt like a bit of a watermark in terms of fan frustration with Moyes. More moderate voices were openly expressing exasperation with the team selection and approach.

We're basically safe and Europe is probably a stretch. What were really playing for is as high a finish as possible and the extra cash it brings.

So, is it worth the gamble to give game time to those seemingly relegated to the fringes and play others in their best positions? What harm could it do. For example:

Pickford

Patterson O'Brien Branthwaite Aznou

Dibling Rohl Dewsbury-Hall George

Ndiaye

Barry

I'd suggest another formation, but it's Moyes, so let's not ask too much. I guess with a run of games we'd soon see if Moyes has been right all along on certain players.

Thoughts?
Said so weeks ago. USE THE PLAYERS WE BOUGHT, LEARN SOMETHING so we avoid a similar crap summer of business.

Sorry but that is never going to happen DM could not pick his nose two really bad defeats Football ?Rugby style & he thinks we did OK ?

Or Rohl in for Garner? Though I would put him in for Gana

op had no garner in the side which i imagine was a mistake, sowas saying id rather see garner in there

would love to see us be the team now that plays for the future with europe and relegation both unlikely, i just don’t see it under moyes though

also if we beat newcastle and burnley we’re right back in it again

i can’t see aznou getting any time under moyes which is a real shame, what i would like to see on a realistic level is:

branthwaite and obrien starting every game together now at cb till end of season

idrissa only used off the bench

george or dibling starting on one wing and ndiaye on the other

dewsbury call deeper in central midfield, whether thats in a two with someone like alcaraz or armstrong at 10, or as part of a midfield 3

armstrong given more time in the centre

patterson or garner at rb. in an ideal world garner would be playing cm but we neglected to sign a rb. patterson clearly isnt rated and doesnt have a future here (makes it all the more baffling we didnt shift him and sign a replacement)

we have good cm options so id see it as getting the best out of what we have and then making a gamechanger at rb the absolute priority in the summer

theres a really exciting young squad here once you scrape keane tarkowski and gana out of the side, lets see it please moyes

I think the corner kick fiasco has done for Moyes even more than the bizarre team selection.

He has now lost a sizeable chunk of the fanbase which was sitting on the fence prior to Monday night.

Those corners were the stuff of Pulis or Sam.

Even back to Wimbledon’s crazy gang circa 1988.

(and that might even be unfair to Pulis, Sam and Gould)

I'm already so tired of this season and ready it for it to be over now. It's like groundhog day. What makes me fume is those calling us for us all to be delighted that we are in such a strong position compared to previous seasons. The journo's on the Blue Room and Royal Blue podcasts are constantly doing this. Why should we be happy at being a bit less s**te. We're still pretty s**te but are getting away with it because of how poor the league is.

We should 100% be looking at the players in the squad to see if they have a future with Everton. Not playing the same players every single game and learning absolutely nothing in the process. We do not need to watch, Keane, Tarks & Gana for the rest of the season. He should be playing Jarrad and Jake as the first choice partnership whenever possible. Lets also look at Armstrong and Rohl for the CM positions. We know what we get with Gana. Loads of running and 0 ability with the ball at his feet. He's great at winning the ball back but can we see players who can play with the actual ball.

Its on the club for not buying full backs either last summer or in January. Other clubs managed it but apparently there isn't a single full back in the world we could have bought who would be an upgrade on Myko or Patterson. So we use our best centre backs there instead. Moyes was an integral part of that recruitment decision making process but apparently we should all make excuses for him.

We can't sort out new fullbacks, a decent forward and wide-men with pace before the summer but let's at least see whether any of the payers we did buy could have a future with us. At this rate come next season we'll still have Dibling, Rohl & Aznou on the bench (if they even make it) and know f-all about whether they could make it or not.
