It was Bristol City. Remember it well.

Huge con job by both clubs as well.

Yeah, if I remember correctly our tannoy announcer cocked up too and said Coventry had beaten them...before Bristol equalised and they played keepy uppy for the last 10 mins...had Jimmy Hill written all over it

Just had a look at your remaining fixtures - not too bad a run-in to be fair but as you say you need to go all out for wins, draws are no use whatsoever.
Good luck anyway, always had a respect for the mackems since the 70's when we ended up sending you down - huge support from your lot and a total farce in the Coventry match(think it was v Bristol City) that ended up a draw relegating you
Cheers, Said for a while we needed 10 wins. So we still need 5 and games are running out. I had yesterday as one of the 5.

Aye, still a lot of hatred for Coventry up here.

It's a shame that Moyes is struggling, he done a great job for us bought us gems and gave us our pride back and made us stronger but he will need time. I would give him another season tbh.

swansea losing back to back games v hull and bournemouth keeps this battle alive really. Won both of them would have seen them joint 10th! so there is every chance one team can drop like a stone from nowhere. Hull are vastly improved under that manager of theirs though and could easily bring someone back in, but i can't look past the bottom 5 with sland already gone. 7 (plus GD) behind a team with a game in hand is too much, especially with two other teams above.

Sam is saving us. Really seeing how he managed to save Sunderland, he's a class manager. Getting the best out of players underperforming all season, bringing back the connection between the fans and players (making the local boy Puncheon captain was a genius move) and with Sakho and Milivojevic coming in he's improved us so much defensively. Think we'll stay up now which is something considering how screwed we seemed to be, the players didn't seem to be listening to him and couldn't concentrate enough to keep a clean sheet. I think 8 more points (36 total) will be enough

he might be called bent, fat, a dinosaur (not seeing this but whatever) by the football world but I hope we keep him

Hope you stay up mate, based largely on the fact that every time I'm in Vegas I seem to always meet a bunch of guys from Sunderland betting on games and they're good people. Night and day from the geordies and mancs I see over here

During Roberto's first season was in Vegas during the Newcastle match where Rom netted the brace. Was fun seeing big fat dudes in bar codes* give me the stink eye as i went to cash in my ticket sporting my Royal Blue.

Big win for Palace, much needed points given their next handful of outings are brutal.

Sorry, Sunderland. One of the guys here who helps important beer is a Mackem (Brit transplant), and we hung out a bit at a Saint Patrick's event. Was taking it in stride. His business partner is the only other Evertonian in Paraguay (studied in Ingerland in the 90s and converted) and wanted to give him a little grief. I talked him out of it. Couldn't do it.

*larger than Yank me. by a couple stone. maybe even John Stones.

And the Bristol City manager was ex Coventry and a mate of Hill......he actually recommended him to Bristol as a manager.

Remember at school the next day some lad who went telling me that the coaches were all held up at Ashton Gate, making sure they were late.

Surprised it never got a wider airing, outside of Sunderland that is. Was an utter set up.

Boro.

Sacked Karanka with 9 games to go. Up to that point they'd conceded 30 goals all season, after he was sacked they conceded 18 in the remaining 9 games and won 6 points.

A salutary lesson to stick by a manager. He might have had them near the bottom at the time but the fundamental set up was resilient. Just needed that waster Negredo to get a few goals.

S'land.

Didn't sack Moyes with 9 games to go. Up to that point they'd scored 24 goals all season, and because he wasn't sacked they scored 4 in the remaining 9 games and won 4 points.

A salutary lesson to sack an underperforming manager. He might have had them at the bottom at the time but the fundamental set up of being crap at going forward was put in place perfectly. Just needed that awful keeper Pickford to save a few goals.

@davek

Made up that Boro are going down. The Entertainers, except the opposite of that. Hope not to see them again for awhile and hope it discourages other promoted sides from trying to draw their way to survival.
