wasnt that the first olympics in years we overtook you though, much of it down to cycling, australia do still go strong at the cycling, just GB peak better at the olympics it would seem, what would you say is the reason Nails, just a lull in talent between generations?

True. We did win 6 golds in the cycling in Athens. We don't ever dominate in the pool, but we usually pick up five or so medals. Looks like we will probably only win one in the pool, maybe two. But that's only if we can beat the US in the medley relay which is a big if.

So, cycling has a lot do with GB doing better than Australia, considering GB topped us in 2008.

I would put it down to a massive generation gap between talent in all Australian sports. We lost the league world cup, the rugby world cup, doing poorly at the Olympics, very average in cricket, and even worse at football than we have ever been. Sporting wasteland atm.

Shot Put here, Goat Division.

The Big Boys. The Iranian giving it a bit of Welly.

Hope he's throwing into sandbags just in case like

The RU team is still quite strong, just not as strong as the all blacks, the cricket team clearly couldnt cope with having so many all time great retire within 3 years of each other, I dont know enough to suggest the infrastructure wsant there for the next generation to come through, or maybe it is just a lull, but it is certainly the first time in my lifetime, that Australia have been so weak across so many sports, a little strange, I'll be working in Cairns in a few weeks time for a couple of months, so I'll quiz the locals!

it is a shame, never really liked the aussies doing well at sports but always respected them. their cricket team is badly gash at the moment, i'll be dissapointed if there isn't a whitewash next year in the ashes (weather permitting) at least they were until recently no.1 in ODI, not sure how though

Haha, I'm sure they'll just wave you off pretending to not know anything! But yeah, basically Australia had a sporting lull in the 70s when we didn't win a gold at the Montreal games. So the government began investing a heap of money in sport which culminated in the Australian Institute of Sport. Well-known Premier League football players to graduate from there: Lucas Neill, Brett Emerton, Mark Viduka, Craig Moore, and Kevin Muscat.

I think investment and coaching has probably begun wasting away over the years since Sydney 2000.

That Katarina girl's posture is annoying me. She's good though, I reckon if she had shorter hair she'd get higher though.

Clubless Harry Kewell now appearing on the Australian Olympic coverage. Wow, our sporting credentials are skyrocketing.
