The Oldies Thread

When I was in junior school a coveted job was tea monitor. We had to make tea for all the staff, then take the teapot and cups round on a tray. Strangely no one considered this dangerous for 10 year olds. I don't remember anyone scalding themselves either.

Some of us never made it to the giddy heights of 'ink monitor' Degs
Me neither, It was seen as punishment in my school, you had to do it after class, so not quite a detention / yellow card, more like 10 mins in the sin bin. Plus the stuff went everywhere if you rushed it and you missed the 46 that came just after 5 past 4

Blimey. You're going back a bit!

I did enjoy writing with a fountain pen though. Parker, Platignum....the names are still familiar but they made writing easy and stylish in a way your biros don't.
My mam worked in a dry cleaners and needed to check the contents of jacket pockets and such like. I've mentioned about her finding Brian Harris's payslip, but she brought a Schaeffer fountain pen home once and it truly was a piece of work.

It was boring being given a pen as a present as a kid. It smacked of school.
I'd love it if someone gave me such a thing now.
All I ever get are book tokens and jars of mustard.
