The Oldies Thread

….still remember getting our first telephone in 1970s, lots of folk don’t even have landlines anymore. Times change.
Remember the Party Line? We shared ours with a woman round the corner, it was well known she was having "a bit on the side" with a local builder, whispering sweet nothings on the phone at various times of the day, my brother used to do kissing noises down the phone when ever he wanted to get her off the phone to phone his mates.

I remember when our exchange number changed from "GRE" to "924" - Crosby for those not from the area. Also, our number was only one digit away from the local swimming baths, used to get a lot of wrong numbers requesting info on opening times. And the phone had it's own table by the front door.

Same - ours went from ARR 8104 to 677-8104. Clearly the new numbered exchanges didn't match the dial letters (277). I worked in Telecom for 40 years and its been incredible to see the changes in phones and computing.
